So glad to hear that your DW's surgery is finally behind her. I pray that she continues to do well in her recovery.

Now, you need to relax & get some much needed rest too. Keep us posted!

New Day

New Day

God Bless you both and your extended family. The worst part (waiting) is over now. After ICU she'll be feeling much better as her body adjusts and the med's start to ween off. I don't remember alot of my time in ICU but my wife tells me that she knew I was with her when I gave her a thumbs up to a question. I am glad to hear that her support staff is so attentive to all of your/her needs. My surgical situation was similar to yours and I was so anxious to so my 3yr old and 9yr old girls that I overlooked having the main line tubes and all covered up before they saw me. The look on my babies face was tortured. I must have looked like Frankenstien, kinda felt that way too. Again God Bless you all.

I'm sorry to hear about the wait and all the tension before they finally got her in the OR. I know you must be and will be exhausted for a while. My wife pretty much kept me sane for the first couple of days just by showing up and baby-ing the hell out of me. When we got home her amazing care giving began in earnest.
When you finally get her home, you'll be the pill guy, the blanket guy, the hand-holding guy, the back-rubbing guy.... all that and more so don't be afraid to be a little selfish - get yerself rest and get help when you need it.
I know she was apprehensive about this (Duh!) but I'm so glad she's gotten through it. congratulations to you both!

David

Reed if she wants you to stay, by all means, don't let anyone stop you from staying. If you need rest, that's fine, but honestly, she's going to need someone other then staff to be with her as much as possible. Some very scary things go on when there are no visitors. I'm speaking from my experiences. ;)

lilteach3234 Update

lilteach3234 Update

Good evening all,

Well, I have tried to post several updates but always ended up either being logged out before I could post and when I got back in, my update was lost or inadvertently closing the silly thing out myself. Needless to say, I was too tired to retype. Anyway, a lot has happened since my last post, she woke up Wed feeling pretty good, considering. Around 8am, they removed the ventilator tube but by 3pm, she started having difficulty breathing and by 4pm, they had put the ventilator tube back in. It was discovered that she had fluid in the lining around her lungs and some around her heart which was making it very difficult for them to oxygenate her blood. It took the rest of Wed, and all of Thursday for them to aleviate this problem and by Friday, they were able to remove the tube successfully. On Saturday, they moved her from CV critical care to the ICU and she has been doing very well so far. Will post more later. My grand daughter is crying and I need to go feed her.

Thanks for the update I'm sorry you had problems (IF It helps somethimes when I typpe long posts I copy it before I hit send in case it gets wiped out I still have it)

I'm sorry she ran into some bumps, but glad things are moving in the right direction now. Please let her know she is in my prayers Lyn

Thanks for the update. I've been wondering. Sorry about the complications, but it seems to be that 3 steps forward, 1 step back is pretty common. Write more when you have time.

Wow, sounds like the both of you have not been having any fun :(

You have gotten through the worst of it, it will only get better.

The first week at home will be pretty slow, don't expect alot,

she'll get alittle stronger each and every day. Take care and tell your wife

were all thinking if her. Debbie :)

I hate to hear when stuff like this happens. Brings back a lot of bad memories, but the fact of the matter is, this is heart surgery and these things happen from time to time.

Thanks for the up-dates, sorry about the complications. Sending prayers to you both.

Thanks for sharing all the info, Reed. My husband was my hero during my CABG and recovery, and so I know she'll remember fondly all of your attention and concern.

Good luck to you both, and wishing her a speedy recovery.
