Good Morning!

I just wanted to thank everybody for all of the kind words and prayers, they really helped more than you know! The surgery went really well and I was able to leave the hospital after just 5 days. After the first night, the pain was almost unbearable but then we were able to get it under control. The breathing exercises before and after the surgery helped with my quick recovery. I don't get upstairs very often yet, so I will check back every couple of days. Thanks again for your nice words that my wife reported to me every day for your comments.

Glad to hear you are at home. That in itself makes you feel better. I was only allowed to walk the steps twice a day. Hope every day you will feel better.

Brian, don't worry about the stairs at all.....there is lots of time to tackle them when you are more up to it.
Rest often, and don't be shy to call your docs with any questions. Take Care.:)

Welcome home, Brian. Rest and do not worry about the stairs...I was not allowed to to go up and down more than once for three weeks, in my case. You shall feel better in no time!

Hi Brian
Good to hear that your surgery and hospital stay went well (apart from that little pain episode: they seem unavoidable!). Now you can enjoy a holiday (of sorts) with the family.
Andy

Welcome home Brian,
It took me a week or so before I felt comfortable on stairs. Don't worry though, keep moving and in no time you'll be hopping up and down those stairs.
John

Welcome home! If you brought your incentive spirometer home with you (the thingie you blow into with the ball), keep using eat.

Your only real jobs right now are to walk, sleep, eat and breathe.

Welcome home!
After the first week, stairs are easy.
Heidi and i have been going to Target - not to shop, just to walk in a warm, flat place.
There are stairs outside too. After a week of that, I feel great.

Good luck to you.

David

David, I am glad to hear you are feeling better! Thanks for the good wishes.

Brian, home is the bestest place in the world ! Take it easy, the stairs will come soon. When I did my "stair test" with physio in the hospital before discharge (they insisted you could walk as many stairs as you needed to get into and out of your house), I took them one at a time and was a little frustrated because I could not just run up them the way I usually do. Physio said, look, you don't need to do them all at once, do two, or three, and rest ... That was an amazing moment for me!

Thank for the info. I go up the stairs once a day. Then maybe next week I will try two times a day. I can't believe I am feeling so much better. I have my times of pain and tiredness but I thought it would be worse. My doctors have said my age (35) played a big role in me feeling this good after ohs. I have one of the best surgeons you can have. My scar is 8 inches long but is so thin. It will fade very fast.
