It rained again today. I had my 5 year old daughter, Jane, pray for 2 inches of rain with me last Friday and for some snow (It's actually pretty close to that total between Friday and today!). :) We needed every drop, too, due to past several dry years. Now we have to wait for the snow part. All it takes is the faith of a little child... I just hope she doesn't start asking God for tornadoes...

Weather Update...

Followup from last week. The snow flew wet, heavy, and sloppy but didn't stick the next day after the post--mountains got plenty, though. It has rained measurable rain at least three times since the last post including a fairly steady rain today. Definitely well past 2 inches total now. Compared to the rest of 2008, November has been a nice well above average month for rainfall.

The last time we had rainfall in excess of 0.1" was in May, and even that was just a few tenths. Yes, there were a few close calls with some nice hail-filled thunderstorms, but they always passed to the south and east of us, flattening crops and flooding streets in the various eastern Twin Falls county towns--we just got to watch the electrical storms and possible funnel clouds from our bone-dry driveway. Even the recent October snow, which left 2 feet accumulation on the ground in Rupert, a town only 40 miles east of us, barely gave us skiff in Buhl.

I hope this current wet weather pattern holds throughout the winter so we get an above average snowpack. The reservoirs don't have much carryover for next year; none of them filled completely this year, but there was enough for normal irrigation for farming.

Of course if it gets dry again, I'll just ask Jane to pray with me for some more precipitation. ;)

Rainy and 45° F in Southern Idaho, Chris
