Abigail is the adorable Boston Terrier in the Better Together picture on my posts.

Her sweet, little soul slipped away from us on Friday from kidney failure, and we are crushed. I know a dog isn't a person, but they can leave a terrible hole in your lives when they go. This is our first day without her gentle, little presence, and we miss her so much that we are truly wretched. We just hold each other and cry. She was a very special creature.

Be well,

So sorry, Bob. I hope you and your wife find solace in your fond memories and in knowing that she is no longer suffering.

Be well,

Bob, I'm so sorry that your dear little dog passed away. I know how you feel and my thoughts will be with you. The bond with a special pet is strong and very much like family.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beloved Abby! Having lost several beloved pets throughout the years, it never gets easier to let them go.

Console yourself knowing that you provided your dear little Abby a wonderful, loving home filled with happiness and in return she gave you lots of years of unconditional and true love.

Bob, as I sit here typing through tear filled eyes, I feel your pain and mourn your loss.:(
This is a well known poem of eternal life:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Bob,

I am sorry for your loss of your dog. I feel your pain and know how you feel! I had to put my 16 yr old cat KC, down two years ago, due to kidney disease! It really hurt to do that! Take comfort that you gave Abby the best in life.

Bina: Thanks for sharing Rainbow Bridge. I love that poem and once again had tears in my eyes as I read Bob's post and then that poem.

We will be back together with our pets eventually.

Bob,
I'm very sorry to hear that, we have been there way too many times and know how it feels.
Any pet has always been very special to us.

I am sorry Bob...

I am sorry Bob...

My parents just lost our family cat to liver cancer so they know exactly how your feeling. Here's wishing you and your wife comfort and I am sending out the prayers that you will both heal and remember the good times with Abby. Harrybaby:eek:

I am so sorry about Abby. Animals are a very forgiving part of our family. I know how hard that is. We had to put our dog down a few years back and I swore I would not go through that pain again. Well guess what , we have a golden retriever and he has my heart! I, also love the Rainbow Bridge. Thanks for sharing Bina.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your special friend and family member. Joe and I had many pets. Because our little friends don't live as long as we do, we will see them depart this life, unfortunately.

We always thought of our pets as family members. They might not speak our language, but they surely know how to communicate. I can understand much of what my little dog Harriet tries to tell me, and she understands a lot of what I say. She is like my little baby daughter.

I lost two elderly cats earlier in the year, and one the year before. All very different personalities, all special friends.

It makes you sad for a very long time.

So sorry for your loss. It's amazing how animals can steal our hearts.

Years ago my husband and I went for a long run (16 miles) in the pouring down rain. This little boston terrier and a black lab ran with us the entire run. They'd paw at our legs towards the end to get us to stop, they were amazing.

Cherish the memories and Abby's pictures.

Hi Bob
I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear of Abby's passing. Please know, and I believe this from my heart, that she hasn't left your side; she's still there, but in a different form. Dogs are so very loyal that she won't leave and go until she's sure that you will be ok with her loss. I truly believe that and remember when we had to put down the boy who is in my avatar...he always slept right next to my knee in bed. I remember waking up at 2 in the morning and knew he was right there. None of the other dogs would sleep in his spot for quite awhile. i'm dealing with one of my springers who is in the beginning stages of renal failure, so I know where you're coming from.

I'm sending this website with the hope that it will give you some peace. It's not the Rainbow Bridge, but one I like much better. I hope you can open it or cut and paste into your web browser:

I wish you peace and will keep you in my prayers.

Bob,

I am very sorry for this terrible loss to the family. I hope that eventually happy memories will help fill the void, but I know how hard it is right now. Sending best thoughts and wishes.

Bob ....Sorry for your loss ? I know what you are feeling ? I had to have my beloved lab Sam put down after failed surgery for a hip disorder. First time I?d cried in years?..

Oh Bob. Of course you are heartbroken. How sad.

Please accept my sympathies and remember that the greatest honor a living thing can have is to be so very missed when they are gone.

Best wishes.

Marguerite

Oh Bob, my dear friend. What can I say that hasn't already been said. I do know how you feel. I too have lost so many of my furry friends. I have a little biscon right now that is failing rather fast. I always say "never again" and low and behold I put always put myself through it again and again. Cuddles is 14 years old, totally deaf and is going blind. She can barely walk. She does't seem like she is in pain but when she does, I know what I'm going to have to do. Hugs coming your way!

our loyal children are just that - our children. when they leave us, we grieve for the loss of our family member. Condolences to you and your wife. Little Abby is around.
