I haven't felt as great as I thought I would since my surgery... a little short of breath during walks when going up hills and particularly stairs as well as fatigue. Not extreme, but still a bit bothersome.

My cardio is fabulous and really listens to me. He's trying to get me feeling as good as possible.

He started me on 2.5 mg lisinopril (ace inhibitor). It's the smallest dose possible and I think I'm feeling better but wonder if it is all in my head. :) I've taken it for about three weeks. For my walks both yesterday and today, I paid attention and didn't seem to have much short of breath in the hilly spots where I customarily feel it.

Can such a small dosage make a noticeable difference? I've always been able to handle most drugs easily and do not have an 'over-sensitivity'.
I'm wondering if this is simply a placebo affect.

Thanks for any opinions.

No, I don't think it's all in your head. I take 5mg of Altace for BP for about 2 years now. When I first started taking it though, my cardio started me out at 2.5mg & then after some time increased it to the 5mg that I take now.

So if your shortness of breath seems to be less, than the 2.5mg is definitely doing the job it's suppose to be! :)

Take care & take it one day at a time. :)

Probably not all in your head.

I take lisinopril 2.5 mg., but I take it for blood pressure. I had the dosage lowered last year (I believe) from 10 mg to 2.5 mg because I was getting light headed and dizzy. I hope you continue to do well.

Although 2.5mg seems like its hardly worth bothering about if its all that is needed to keep your heart working just fine then its important. I used to take Ace inhibitors too and the dose was also quite small. I believe they just work differently and that a small ammount of them is all that is needed to be effective.

I think it may well be working for you at that dose. I'm on Altace 10mg a day. My beta blocker however is Atenolol and I take 12.5 mg a day. That is a half of the smallest tablet. Cardiac drugs are so powerful that sometimes it only takes a little to do the job. I'm glad you are starting to feel better and less short of breath as well.

I have a friend that would say when I asked that kind of question ?. ?Does it mater?? ? Point being as long as you are feeling better it is working ? whether it is the medicine or your mind it is working ? the mind is a powerful heath restorer ? Glad you are feeling better!!

Thanks everyone. I see my cardio again in a few weeks and hopefully I will be able to then tell him I still feel better.

I am very appreciative for your opinions as sometimes I feel so unsure about all these heart meds and questions.

Thank you for your help.

I spoke with my cardio today and he was pleased I felt it was helping me. He said he probably will think about increasing it a bit when I see him next month. He expected that low dose would help and wanted to start me on it slowly. Seeing as I feel better, he will try a slightly higher dose to get me a bit more help.

Bless that man..... he listens and tries so hard to make me feel as well as I can.

I was on 5 mg in July and feeling light headed whenever I bent down and had to hold onto something every time I got up. My Dr. lowered the dose in Sept. and it's better though not great. I still have to be careful getting up. I am on it to decrease the pressure to try and get my Left ventricle to shrink some, and I have low b/p to begin with. I hope to get off it after. I hate taking meds.
