Hollywood great Paul Newman died today after a long battle with cancer. He was a humanitarian as well as a talented actor.

I suppose my favorite Newman movie is "The Sting." He and Redford were wonderful together, as they were in "Butch Cassidy..", but in "The Sting" we also also get to watch a wonderful ensemble cast perform, we get a great plot with a surprise ending, and a wonderful musical score. MR. Newman displayed that famous smile with a twinkle in his eye in that one!

He will be missed.

What a great actor and great man -- did a lot of good in this world quietly, without showboating.

I vote for the "Sting" also. I have the 'Sting' as a ring tone on my cell phone.

Mr. Newman was also involved in Indy Car Racing (Newman & Haas Racing Team), which my son attends and has a few pictures of Mr. Newman in the pits.

A sad day.

I'm really sad to hear this , he was a great man seldom seen in Hollywood.
My favorites were "The Sting" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

He was a lovely man.

I have a special fondness for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, so I'll pick it.

What a great picture! He played in so many good movies. Cool hand Luke and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, favorites. He will be missed.

Paul Newman gone at 83

Paul Newman gone at 83

Seems like all the ones I grew up with are leaving us now.

I always loved "blue eyes". The older you get, Ross, the more is gone- both people and places.:(

I'll never forget what he said regarding his wife, Joanne Woodward.
When asked why he didn't take advantage of the multitudes of
female fans,he replied why should I get hamburger out when I have
filet mignon at home.
I heard that his wife was insulted, but I'm sure she thought it funny too.

I know I am sad to see him go.

Another vote for Cool Hand Luke. Films with doomed anti-heroes in the lead role do it for me.
A snatch of dialogue as Luke talks to Old Man (God)

Luke: Anybody here? Hey, Old Man. You home tonight? Can You spare a minute. It's about time we had a little talk. I know I'm a pretty evil fellow... killed people in the war and got drunk... and chewed up municipal property and the like. I know I got no call to ask for much... but even so, You've got to admit You ain't dealt me no cards in a long time. It's beginning to look like You got things fixed so I can't never win out. Inside, outside, all of them... rules and regulations and bosses. You made me like I am. Now just where am I supposed to fit in? Old Man, I gotta tell You. I started out pretty strong and fast. But it's beginning to get to me. When does it end? What do You got in mind for me? What do I do now? Right. All right.

[Gets on knees, closes eyes and begins to pray]
Luke: . On my knees, asking.

[Peeks up with one eye, waits. Then opens eyes and crosses arms]
Luke: . Yeah, that's what I thought. I guess I'm pretty tough to deal with, huh? A hard case.

[Clicks tongue]
Luke: . Yeah. I guess I gotta find my own way.

When asked Why he was cutting the heads off parking meters Luke replied
"Small town, not much to do in the evenin'."
