Some may recall my observation that any new pictures would have to come to me until my rehab gets further along. This pretty young doe must have decided to volunteer. i would have liked a better picture, but as you can see, she spotted me at the same instant I snapped the picture. Considering my entire effort in getting the picture consisted of sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee, I can't complain that she didn't want to sit around.

I had three deer run in front of my car on the way to work this morning. They were so pretty. We have apple and plum trees in our yard and almost every morning and evening they are there eating the fruit off the ground.

Nothing wrong with the pic you got. Their hearing is so good that I'm sure just releasing the shutter made her jump.

That is a sweet shot, Dennis.

Last week I was driving up one of our suburban hills and 3 deer were making their way up also; one on the street, 2 on the other side of the guard rail. They looked so distressed! Like they all wanted to be on the same side of the railing! It's a common place for them to cross and a 25 mph road, so I just drove on, happy to have seen them.

One of these days I'll get a snap of our blue heron. He (she? who knows) looks like a pteridactyl (sp!!!?) flying overhead every evening. I even saw it glide by motionless past our living room window (that is essentially on the 3rd floor above a creek and woods) one morning. Like you. Just standing there with a cup of coffee drinking in the morning and whoa! there goes the heron. I did once snap a photo of it in the distance when he was sitting by a pond, but the shutter made him recoil his gorgeous long neck down into his body by the time my picture actually took! Fast bird for something so large!

Keep those photos coming. Love them all!

beautiful! what big ears she has.

did y'all know that the farther south you go, the smaller the deer. In Arcadia we saw about 8 of them crossing a road in an orange grove. They were the size of very big dogs. There are key deer from Miami to Key West (ergo the name KEY deer) and they are very, very small.

This week, driving home on my tiny dirt road, a doe leapt over the railroad track and then from the bushes along the road right into the path of my car. Glad I drive very slow on this road. We often have them in the edge of the woods and sometimes in the back yard.
