I've kind of been laying low the last week or so. I just check in to see if anyone has any questions I can help with on the Anticoagulation forum. I won't go into why. Let's just say it has to do with hospitality. We have many people who visit here and some of them are brave enough to join. We have lots of information to share here. Today we had a young adult come on with warfarin questions. He didn't know what a "valver" was, but he had sincere questions related to his life on Coumadin. I'm sure he found this site just as I did: through a Google search on Coumadin. I wasn't Googling issues with my valve, it just happened to be a happy coincidence that it was a valve site I found. Most of what I know about Coumadin I learned because of VR. If we can be of help to those who take Coumadin for any other reason besides valve issues - I think we should do it. This young man may have had some helpful insight for other young adults who are considering a choice that requires Coumadin. Or are faced, through no choice of their own, with living their life on warfarin.

Some may not know is that we have a very active member who may have been turned away from this site if we set a strict guideline that the member must have a valve problem or a loved one with a valve problem. If you read the registration rules and information you'll notice that there really aren't any specific valve requirements to register as a member. Or any requirements that they prove to anyone but the administrators and moderators that they are who they say they are.

Perhaps my post to Khory in his thread will clear this up?

Basically we welcome EVERYONE until they've done something to prove they are no longer welcome. If and when that time comes, Hank and I will deal with it at that time, but until then, welcome and help everyone who asks.
 
I am always welcoming to new members......but without Ross being around and not knowing who or how this new member registered and can now review all of our personal info, I got very nervous, very fast.

I'm not here, but figured I better do something since it was a reported post. I don't want anymore of what happened last week happening again. There is going to be a flood of new people. About 12 were held up awaiting activation that I just finished going through, so now you know that everyone has been checked thus far. ;)
 
Thanks Karlynn. I certainly agree. I have recommended this site to several friends who didn't get valves. I knew they could access really valuable information relevant to their conditions here, (warfarin management, OHS...) I like to think we should be open to helping as many as we can.
 
I am actually appalled at some of the responses to Khory's thread. Talk about pushing people away. This is one of the premier sites on the web for anti-coagulation information so who cares that it was initially intended for valve patients?

I am very unhappy at some of the recent events on this site. We need to get past some of the negativity or we will lose even more members.

It's not my site so I cannot speak for Hank but I think we should welcome anyone with issues relating to ours.
 
I said it before and I'm going to say it again. It hurts nobody to be friendly and welcoming to new members, whether they are posting for their loved ones (like I and so many others have), or have some condition related to what we do here (like some of our most favorite members).

We have people coming from all over the world, and from all walks of life. Everyone expresses themselves differently. Some are good with computers, some are not, some can spell and some cannot, some can make good sentence structure and some can not, that really does not matter in the grand scheme of things.

True, we have had trolls in the past and some real wingdingers, but Hank and Ross are very adept at keeping trolls away.

So until someone comes here and does something nasty, the best thing is to try to help and be kind. People coming here can be in extreme distress and feel like they have found people who care.

Let Ross and Hank take care of the bad ones.

Let's just be kind to one another, and most especially to new members. We were all new once.

I just noticed the posts were gone and I am happy about it. However, it does make my post here seem to be without substance (but I have a thick skin).;):D;) I would rather have to explain my post than to have those unfriendly words out there for all to see.

Friends and family, please don't be upset with terms such as "offending posts" etc. This whole thing happened at a weird time when everyone is on edge. All we ask is that you welcome everyone and treat them as you'd want to be treated if it was your first visit. It's perfectly fine to be suspicious, but bring that up to Hank or I and let us make the determination from there. I emailed Khory and I see him viewing now. I explained that since he was on Coumadin, he was subject to the same as mechanical valvers and therefor there isn't any reason that we cannot help him.

So everyone knows, there are no alter egos or double profiles that I know of. Everyone who is here is legit as far as I can tell. If something seems suspicious, alert the admin and we'll look into it.

We could be entertaining angels and be unaware of it!
