Hi everyone,I had been feeling particularly unwell over the last few weeks,(particularly with a pain underneath my sternum which makes me sob) and I woke up Friday morning with chest pain, quickly noticed my heart felt 'weird' not irregular just weird. I lay still and tried to breath through it but next thing it took off so fast that I was gasping for breath. It felt as though there was a fist punching my chest from the inside. At the same time I got a sharp/tearing pain in the centre of my chest and coming out through my back, which hurt even more when I tried to breath, so I could only manage very shallow breathing. My heart slowed down after about 5 minutes but the chest pain was REALLY bad for over an hour.

I thought that it may be my aorta because the pain was very sharp and mentioned this to the doctor who treated me in A&E but he didnt even answer me.

I was discharged a couple of hours ago by a doctor who told me that they cannot do anymore for me there (my local hospital) and I need to be seen in Dublin. I have an out-patients appointment on 19th August.

I have to take pain killers every 4/5 hours.

They also said that even though my MVR is moderate, tricuspid reg. is moderate and the right side pressures are moderately high that my heart is 'fine' because it is not enlarged.

Does this sound right.

Jacqui, I'm sorry that you are still having so many problems. I'm hoping that now that you get to go to Dublin you will be able to find some answers. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Kim

When my stenosis was moderate I had pressure pain at the bottom of my sternum, lots of palps, dizzyness, etc. But I didn't have the pain that you are describing. I hope you get some answers in the next few weeks.

I don't know the answer...

I don't know the answer...

Jacqui, you certainly also have my empathy. I hope you will find some answers in Dublin. Take care :) .

I don't know the answer to your question, but perhaps the cardiologist in Dublin will.
Best wishes while you wait and I hope you get some clear clut answers at your appointment.

Jacqui-

I am so sorry this is going on so very long for you. I am baffled as to why your doctors are not able to help you. It is surely something that needs addressing. I hope this doesn't mean that you have to pay a pretty penny again to get help in Dublin.

With your system, if your main doctor cannot help you, will they then refer you and then it is paid?

This sounds like a frightening experience, and I'm sorry that your hospital
is so unhelpful. I had a similar exprience to that of Susan's- a sharp pain in
the pit of my chest, diaphoresis(sweating) and SOB-for me it turned out
to be an an arrhythmia(SVT/a.flutter)
I really hope that you get some help this August, you are in my prayers,
--Dina:)

Those are exactly the sort of symptoms that I was supposed to watch out of pre-surgery as symptoms of aortic dissection. Obviously you didn't have a severe tear, because you -- not to be morbid -- are still alive. Still, didn't any of the doctors talk to you about that? I was supposed to get myself to the emergency room ASAP if I got a combination of severe, sharp chest and back pain accompanied by shortness of breath and nausea that did not go away after a few minutes.

Jacqui, did they do a CT scan, a TEE or otherwise measure the size of your aorta while you were most recently in the hospital? I share PonyGirl's concern as to the source of your pain. An aortic dissection would be an emergency that would have to be dealt with immediately.

Thank you ALL for taking the time to reply.

*Nancy, Yes my medical needs will be paid for when I see the EP specialist in Dublin.

*Dina, I read the discharge letter they gave me today, and it says 'Diagnosis: Symptomatiac paraxomal (sp) a.fib, SVT and MVP.

*Ponygirlmom, I remember lying on the trolly in A&E and because it was 9am there wasnt a doctor there yet. One of the nurses phoned for the doctor on call and after 20 minutes he still hadnt arrived and I heard her whisper to the other nurse ''this is dreadful, he should be here by now''. There were 2 other patients there with chest pain, all waiting for the doctor to arrive. By this time I was feeling really unwell, bad pain, weakness, sob, sweating, just awful.

I can recall thinking, well, if this is an aortic dissection Iv had it, because by the time the doc gets here and sees the people there ahead of me, and if I manage to convince him/her to even consider aortic problems, it will take so long I will probably be dead by then.

I told the doc twice that I was concerned about it but he didnt even reply.

I still feel very unwell, and have a weird sensation in my chest. Like an uncomfortable
fullness, nausea, sickly pain, weird sensation in my chest.

I sure hope God is watching over me.

Sorry to hear what you're going through. How frustrating it must be to not have the answers you need. I'll be praying that you get them soon.

Sorry to hear you are going through this still, is this the normal level of care in Ireland?

write your questions out, and your symptoms, and if you can, take test results and everything with you to Dublin. Give your specialist a copy of your list of questions, and tell him/her up front that you want answers!

Jacqui, I am so sorry you are going through all this. Having to wait 3 weeks when you're this sick seems like insanity on the doctors part. Seems like many of them just dismiss a patient if they don't know what the problem is. I'm keeping you in my prayers, and hoping you feel better despite being largely ignored by your doctors. Brian

It doesn't seem fair (or right) that you should have to live with these frightening symptoms for the next three weeks. We are upholding you in our prayers. We sure hope that you are able to access help earlier than the 19th. Are you able to call Dublin evary couple of days to see if there has been any cancellations?

Thinking of you,

Yolanda

hello Jaqui

hello Jaqui

I think that nhs is not good at the moment. They first found out i had a heart mumur about 22 years ago. Not to worry they said. Then about two years I started to get sob and slight chest pains and chest tightness when excerising. Went to the g.p He sent me to see a cardlosit. did a ulta sound and told me I have a biscupid Aoritc valve and I will need it replacing at some time but no follow up from the cardloilist. You would think that they would take more notice of us.

Jacqui ~ I'm so sorry to hear all that you're going through. I hope you get answers soon. I will keep you in my prayers.
