Hi everyone, I haven't been here in awhile, but was writing to tell everyone the doctors have been trying to treat me with medicine for the pulmonary hypertension and mitral stenosis. But now they have finally, after all this time decided I need to go ahead and have the valve replaced. The ring they used for repair is causing mitral stenosis and therefore causing pulmonary hypertension. Long story short, doc says he doesn't want to get too much water under the bridge with the PH and says we need to go ahead with replacing valve to see if it will reverse the PH.

So as much as I dread it, like all of us here I just have to bite the bullet, pray and keep going.

Missed everyone. :)

I am glad they are paying attention to you PH, and are going ahead with the surgery. I certainly hope that is the end of it. Joe suffered from PH for years. Tracleer worked for him for a while. And then when he needed a possible tricuspid and pulmonary valve surgery, he was too ill to have it.

So although it isn't something you want to face, it's good to get it over with.

Wishing you all the best.

Sorry to hear you need to have the valve replaced. I haven't heard that the ring they used for the mitral valve repair could cause mitral stenosis. Did the docs indicate how common this is?

Best wishes and good luck with the replacement.

Sorry to hear this and wishing you the best results. Please let us know when you have a date so we can add you to the calendar. We want to travel this road with you.

I'm sorry to read this news, but I'm glad the cardiologist has a handle on what needs to be done.
We're here when you need someone to talk to.

Sorry to hear you need the surgery after all. You don't want to mess with PH because that a whole other problem. So if you can get it fixed by the valve replacement it will make the the PH alot better. At least that what I was told, and I'm 90% better.
You will be in my prayers and let us know any updating along the way.

Thank you all for everything, it's really nice to be able to come here when you need to because sometimes the people around us just don't know what we're going through or getting ready to go through. I'll keep you updated on the date. I go to the doctor on Aug. 5th to discuss appointment date for the surgeon and go over my last echo.

I just remember how much pain it was and just prayed I didn't have to do this again, but we must do what we must do to get better.

WayneGM.... no they didn't tell me how common it was for the stenosis but did tell me it was common to have another surgery after a repair. I think all the chronic coughing I've done for years is what made the ring to tight. Now they are telling me the cough is coming from my heart.

Thank you all very much, you're in my prayers.

Sorry to hear you require another surgery. I am also an MV repair. I noticed you are in OKC. Dr Scott Lucas at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital did my brother's MV replacement surgery in Sept 2006 (& my SIL's 2 heart valve replacements). I had my repair done by Dr William Ryan in Dallas....I was specifically looking for a surgeon who did minimially invasive surgery.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.
