Greetings all. I just happened to do a search and stumbled on this web site. Awesome! I am a 37 year old who was diagnosed this past march with a 5.5cm aortic root aneurysm with moderate AV insufficiency. So I had it repaired last April, two days before my birthday. The whole thing that was really a bummer with this, was the fact that I am an active duty Air Force ICU nurse. So I had a lot of worry/anxiety with what could go wrong. I knew too much.

In any event, I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I am glad to be alive! I thank God every day that my aneurysm was found during my flight physical by the flight surgeon. His thoroughness literally saved my life.

I will be 6 months post op the end of Oct. I am still in the Air Force and just passed my CCRN certification exam! Yippeeee:D

Sorry to ramble, but I just wanted to introduce myself.

Welcome to our wonderful community! I wish you'd found us sooner so we could have been there for you during your anxious moments. Congrats on being alive!!! and on passing your exam.

We can never have too many experienced people on board, so I hope you will be available for opinions and advice sometimes. Since you have signed up to serve your fellow man two-fold (armed services and nursing.....wow.....thank you!!) it is in your blood to be supportive. We will enjoy your contributions.

Best wishes!

Marguerite

Maestro, welcome to the nuthouse:)
Thanks for the detailed intro about yourself, you will be a valuable asset to this group of wonderful people.
And yes, you are lucky to be alive....my friend had her 31 year old son drop dead from a ruptured aneurysm.

Welcome to this forum! I know how strange it feels to be in bed rather than at the bedside too. I was a CCRN and a CEN for many years. I had my MVR done at Duke so I wasn't on home ground for that but last month I had a cervical spinal fusion. All along the way I ran into people I knew and had worked with in one area or another. I spent the night in one of the intensive care units that I worked in many years ago. What a strange feeling!

You will probably find that you will learn more on this site than in any textbook. ...Especially about the ins and outs of anticoagulation. I hope you enjoy yourself and stick around to get to know people a bit.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Nice to have you aboard! I know how you feel. My PCP found my aneurysm when I went in thinking I had Mono. Stick around we can use you here! Thanks for your service! Brian

I see you are in pinehurst NC. I was stationed at Pope AFB for my first assignment. I have a close friend that's the golf pro at the pinehurst GC.

Well, I learned a lot as a patient. I was quite humbled. 2 iraq deployments had nothing on this heart surgery.

Nice to see another Texan here!

I will be in the San Antonio area -- Live Oak Civic Center -- on Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 20-21, for a cat show. If you have time, drop by the civic center. I'll be showing an American Shorthair, an Abyssinian and my newest acquisition, a Norwegian Forest Cat kitten, Hoda Kotb (named for the reporter on the Today show).

Thanks sir, it's my honor to serve. I just feel guilty that I can't deploy anymore. I love to deploy, and love my job. I'm happy that I was fortunate to at least deploy to Iraq twice before this happened.

Thanks again for your support, it means alot:)

My husband served in the Air Force -- at the NATO base in Iceland (brrrrr) and at Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyo. This was during the Vietnam era.

One of our cat show judges, Pam DelaBar, is a retired Army lieutenant colonel. She lives in the San Antonio area and will be judging at the Live Oak show. (She's also president of Cat Fanciers' Association.)
She exudes military bearing so much that I keep wanting to salute her at shows!
