We spent the weekend at the Lake..camping with son..and 14 of his best Firemen friends/family.....I went to babysit.. We were cooking for a huge cook-out at the pavillion........when I NIPPED the top of my first finger of left hand with a knife trying to get a stupid bag opened.. ..it started bleeding and I held paper towels over it..but kelp bleeding..so walked outside to get son to help me...All I wanted him to do was help try to put pressure on it...but he was talking to 4 Firemen/paramedics..and when son said, I was taking coumadin..they were all over me... One whipped out this HUGE first-aid kit..and all started working on my little bleeding finger. I think they were kinda surprised that all they did..it kelp bleeding..I told them..not to worry..that I knew it would stop soon..they kelp wrapping it..until I had to laugh...didn't want to hurt their feelings..and yes, they said, coumadin is a blood -thinner.. Didn't correct them on that either.... just went back to motorhime and unwrapped half a roll of gauge that they had put on my finger..and left just a small tad...enough that the blood didn't show thru..and all night ..they kelp asking me..How is your finger?...That was last night and I still have that tad of bandage of it..and will soak it tomorrow and take it off...making sure the cut has clotted...Kinda smelly tho.. First cut in 5 years on coumadin..small..but it did bleed..and know my INR was stable..Just took it before I left...Bonnie

Must have been nice fun to have all these good-looking fireman around you and fussing about your finger. (I could only dream of such a thing)

But MAKE sure that finger is okay and clean

Yes, Freddie..they were all good-looking..but I have known most of them for 18 years.. My son started working with the local Sheriff's Dept..when most of them were his age..Now, they are all grown..with families like my son....they are all bonded..like a Brotherhood..they meet every 3 months for a family gathering..Kids included... ..In fact, one got on his phone and called the local ER..I asked son..who is he calling?..he said..Dr. Barr. Andy..I said, Andy who?..Son said, oh Andy ..he started with me as a fireman..and loved it so much..he went to Med school and now..he is ER doctor... and sure enough Andy comes on and tells this Fireman..Wes Anderson's mom is bleeding and on coumadin...and what all they had done..and Andy said, if it has not quit bleeding in an hour ..bring her in to me. ..I said, No way.. ..laughing....Now, they were serious...the town we were camping in..Lake Lanier.. Gainesville, Ga. is small....outskirts of Atlanta..WHY..I love living in rural America.... ......Bonnie

Barb...I need to remember to put some cayene pepper in my motorhome.. .I did tell the wives..that..when their Hubby's was hovering over me..:..but they were all so excited to be doing their thing..on weekend off...cannot get away from thier week jobs. ..Used me for their.. Out.. who is the best type macho thing?.. ..I just sat back and enjoyed it.. ...After all. I am the Granbonny of all their kids..With my 4..there are about 20 more...same age as theirs....Maybe they were just worried that I could not watch all of them.. why they had a great time.. Oh, my goodness..when you post..with your 7,795 posts on VR.com..I told hubby..time to remove my bandage. from 24 hours ago. He agreed.. I closed my eyes when he removed it.. .open my eyes..and there it was. a clean cut. NO bleeding.. Hubby just put a bandaid on it..Now, I can type.. Will wait and clean it tomorrow.....Looking at it...was a little more of a deeper cut then I thought?....Stupid food stuff. where you have to have a knife to open something so simple.. ..

A very wise person told me once, "that you will never cut yourself on a sharp knife"
Maybe its time for you to sharpen yours knifes and or your finger nails

Freddie, yes, on "Wok with Yan" he says, "a sharp knife is a safe knife". Meaning that you are more likely to hurt yourself when struggling to work with a dull knife. Makes sense.
Hmmm, ever try to stab a burglar with a dull knife??

Hi Bonnie,

Happy to hear you are doing better. Bit scary when it's happening!

Sliced the top of my index finger after dropping a glass....cleaning up. It did bleed longer than usual. But nothing I would consider serious. If I would have went to the ER...they would have made a huge issue out of it I am certain. Used liquid New Skin...wonderful stuff. It disenfects and seals the area. So well that I beleive that was the fix that held it together! Love the stuff. Use for paper cuts too!

the reaction in the ER to someone anticoagulated presenting with a cut (bleeding).

Recently I was experiencing symptoms that required a trip to the ER where they drew blood for various tests including INR which was slightly elevated--no big deal. Attending doctor was more concerned about the INR than anything else. It was humourous actually and I could almost visualize the VitK shot heading my way.
