I telephoned his sister who says the surgery was done this morning and not only is he ok but romping ahead. He was off the ventilator very quickly and was being transferred out of ICU and put in to High Dependency this afternoon.

She didn't know whether he had the ON-X, she didn't ask. She will see Alan tomorrow and will ask him then.

Great news, Sue- thanks for posting. We will look forward to the next update.

Outstanding!

Outstanding!

I'll continue to keep them all in my thoughts and prayers.

Yeap pretty soon this will be a drive thru surgery. It's nearly that now. Just wish mine would have been like that and not what they were.

Awesome news!!!

Thoughts/prayers coming your way, Alan, for a continued SUCCESSFUL recovery :).

Excellent to read, Sue! Thank you for posting and please wish Alan the best for us.

I just heard from Alan, he is out of hospital and in a 'care home' which sounds like fun.

He also says - "I have to go back into the hospital overnight on Monday because they want to drain suspected accumulation of blood beneath my ribs (according the an x-ray) though my breathing's not too bad at all."

Apart from that he sounds in fine fettle.

Thanks for the update Sue. Hoping Alan's recovery goes smoother from here on out:) .

I hope that the accumulated blood doesn't make Alan too short of breath before they drain it on Monday.
Please extend my best wishes when you next write to him, Sue.

Sue posted in another thread that Alan received an On-x.

Until about five minutes ago I didn't know which valve he received. I asked his sister on the day of the surgery and she didn't know but was going to ask him the next day. The following day I phoned and spoke to his brother-in-law as his sister was still with Alan and the brother-in-law didn't know. I didn't like to keep bothering them so asked Alan by email, he has just replied.

He received the on-x. No mystery, I just didn't have the information to pass on.
