Well, this ole' St. Jude valve of mine will be 26 years old tomorrow. Or I guess I should say it was implanted 26 years ago. It really does seem like it was just yesterday. I remember quite well the days leading up to Aug. 20, 1981 and the days to follow. I know hindsight is 20/20, but I'm so glad and thankful that I signed those papers allowing my surgeon to implant that new valve that hadn't yet been approved by the FDA. The surgeon seemed to be very confident about it. It has served me well, and I'm counting on it clicking for many more years!:) LINDA

CONGRATULATIONS, Linda!!!

Hope you celebrate appropriately ;).

Great news, Linda. the kind I like to hear. September 17 I come up to #9 and still clicking away. I'm so happy my surgeon decided to use a mechanical St. Jude. I'm beginning to feel old and fragile( now 81) and in no mood for a repeat surgry.

Linda - a big congratulations on 26! So 26 years ago you celebrated your birthday by having open heart surgery. Hmmm - I probably would have chosen something else...but to each his own.:D

Seriously - I wish you 26 more wonderful years and more.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Karlynn, it's so funny that you mention me celebrating my birthday by having open heart surgery. The night before I had to go into the hospital was my birthday (the 18th). My kids (ages 5, 3, and 3) decided that we should go to Chuck E Cheese for my birthday dinner. What a last supper to have before leaving the "real food" world for that of hospital food!:p We had a great time together though, and it was a wonderful birthday. I was at the point that I just wanted to get my valve replaced and to hopefully not have to have another surgery. You know what I mean having been a mother yourself of young children when facing this kind of surgery. Another blessing was that the night before my surgery, the man that was supposed to be the first surgery the next morning got cold feet and backed out. My surgeon came in and told me that I would get to go first! Now that was a great birthday gift!:D Oh, by the way, that man eventually had his surgery a couple of days later. LINDA

Congratulations on the 26th mile marker. Have I told you I love you lately?

I choose my mothers birthday for mine and you see what that got me huh?

No, you haven't told me that lately, Ross. But I'm glad you did.;) See, I'm still celebrating my birthday two days later.:D Don't know what to say about choosing your mom's birthday for your surgery except that you're still here with us, right? Mighty glad you are too!!:) LINDA
