The 4th year anniversary of my aortic valve replacement with a St Jude valve has come and gone...but no celebration this year. A year ago all was well...just a small amount of leakage. But...over the last year...major leakage has developed and I have to get another valve replacement. Sometime in the next 3 to 6 months probably. They think the valve is coming loose from the heart tissue. Sigh...

Well...I enjoyed being over the mountain for a few years...but now I am back on the other side again.

So sorry to hear this news, please keep us up to date on your surgery plans and come back often for any support we can offer.

So sorry to hear this news. :( I can only imagine how disappointing this must be for you. Please keep us posted and let us know how we can support you through this. I wish you all the best on your second journey.

I'm really sorry to read this. You had your valve replaced shortly before I had mine replaced. I saw in your profile that you had a coarctation repaired years ago, so was your aortic valve bicuspid? If so, have you had any opportunity to read some of the Bicuspid Foundation info? Do you know if there something they can do differently this time? I really feel for you. Please post again and take care.

Oh what distressing news. How did you discover the leakage? Was it from a heart murmur, or did you have other symptoms?

You have my prayers and best wishes for successful resolution of this adversity. Stay strong, and you will conquer this thing a second time.

So sorry to hear about this. Will keep you in my thoughts as you go through the next one, hopefully one that will last a lifetime.

Sorry to hear your bad news. My sister had a similar situation years ago where she had to have a second surgery 2 years later to tighten the valve in place.

First ... congratulations on reaching your 4th anniversary.

Second ... very sorry that you are facing another surgery. Thoughts/prayers coming your way in earnest.

4 yrs. that's great, sorry it's not double that. My thoughts are with you on a second trip up the mountain.

Egads...I hate that for you. I think that most of us who have had valve replacements go around in life with that monster fear inside our heads that we will hear those dreaded words from our docs that we'll need more surgery. I think every time I have a echo or ct scan or check up, that even though I appear calm on the outside, that I have a lump in my throat. I'm sure you'll be alright with this second surgery but I'm sorry that you have to endure it again.

wxman:

Have you had tests other than an echo? Perhaps a heart cath, TEE or another diagnostic test will pinpoint exactly what's going on.

I'm hoping that a surgeon can REPAIR the problem, rather have to replace your mechanical.

Have you researched for names of surgeons with good track records of repairing leakages around mechanicals? (I'm sure there are some of those, since we have members here who have been there, done that.)

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for your all your support. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve. The current problem was discovered through my yearly echo. Also had a TEE a few months back. The one good thing...I am not having any symptoms...still feel great. But...that just makes it harder to have another surgery. Haven't really gotten into the specifics of what is planned. I have another echo scheduled for September. Once the left ventricle enlargement reaches a certain point...the surgery will be scheduled. Can't find a lot of info on the web...apparently not a real common problem.

I'm truly sorry to hear you have to go through this. I had my mitral vavle repaired just over 6 months ago and I am going in to have it replaced next month b/c my vavle is still leaking the same amount it was before the repair. I know this is the last thing you want to go through. Wishing you the best.
