Again, whatever dose keeps you in range is the correct dose. It doesn't matter if it's 30mg a day or 2mg a day.

P S I have been on this sight almost daily for the past 1 1/2 years and this has been such a wonderful web sight. This is my first reply.....hope it works!

I hope it's not your last! Welcome!

Before my surgery, I was on 10-11 mg per day and my range was 2 - 3. Whenever it fluctuated, I had to retest the following week and get two weeks back-to-back in range to go back to monthly.
After surgery, my range was adjusted up to 2.5 - 3.5 and I was able to get an INRatio. Now, I'm pretty steady at 13 mg./day and I've been getting results in the 3.0 - 3.5 range.
I don't pay much attention to high Vit. K foods, but I do try to minimize salt (even though the rat poison is sodium- ? something) and carb. intake.

5 mg. a day...Since 3 months after surgery over 5 years..ago:) I home test..Most time in the 3.0 -3.5 range...Never lower than 3.0......If I go a tad over the 3.5 .just eat more greens...If I hit over 4.0..(due to dieting) I just tweak a tad off the 5 mg...for 1 day..test again in 3-4 days..Most times it drops back in range...:) HooRay for Home testing..:D Bonnie

*Up until a week ago I took 4mg / 5mg on alternate nights, but my INR has been 1.7 for the last few weeks so Im now taking 5mg during the week and 4mg on Sat and Sun night.

That's only 1mg difference  I wouldn't think you'd see any change at all.

I'm on 10mg a day but have been as high as 12.5 3 to 4 times a week.
Was on 10mg right after surgery. Most the time it stay within range.
Tested every 2 to 4 weeks.
That would be interesting too, to find out how often people have protime done or home testing done?????

5mg a day on average. I have at times taken 4mg once or twice every 10 days to keep it below 3.5.

Eat what i like, excercise little and drink a little...pretty stable 2.2-3.2 most of the time, last 4 tests been 2.9.

Hope it continues this way....

Boy that sounds like a high dose....do you get the correct amount for a month as one prescription or do you have to pay more?

I order a 3 month supply online and get it sent to me by mail. (Prescription Solutions) I don't have to drive to the drugstore which saves me time and gas. I pay $40.00 per prescription. (PacifiCare) Kind of expensive but what can you do? My husband insists that I take the Coumadin brand and I have 10's, 4's and 2's on hand.(3x$40.00) I've told him numerous times there is no difference between Coumadin and Warfarin (Al says so :) :) but to keep him happy and not worried (I threw a blood clot 11 days after AVR surgery in 2000) I take the Coumadin brand. They gave me a years worth of refills last time, but even if I need a refill, Prescription Solutions will call my doctor and gets the refill taken care of. I don't have to do a thing and will receive the order within a few days.
So far so good after almost 7 years. No side effects. My 7th anniversary will be August 7th. My second surgery was August 18th, 2000. Don't know which day to keep.:) :)

Hi everyone, I've not login this site for sometime. I took 12 to 13mg daily and my inr stays between 2.8 to 3.5 range, quite consistently.

Low dose?

Low dose?

For the first 19 years, I was stable with 7.5 mg daily. Ran out June 30, 98, and didn't get my refill before having a stroke July 3, 98. (you can bet that will never happen again:eek: ) Even after having the second set of valves installed in February, 2001, went back to 7.5 mg. Had gastric bypass surgery in April 2004, and for the first 6 weeks took .5 mg every other day... have eased back up to 4 mg daily now. Loosing over 200 pounds has hopefully added many more years to my lifespan!

And after over 25 years of taking coumadin, Blue Cross has finally approved me for home monitoring. It's about darned time! Going to the lab and clinic over the years has worn out several vehicles, and a poor, old tired fat man!

Up until a month ago, I was on 5mg/day four days a week and 2.5 the remaining days for over year and a half. Suddenly my range started to drop. The dosage was increased slightly and was still low, 2.0, 2.0 and 2.1. The dosage was changed to 5mg/day every day. My last check was a week and a half go and it was at 2.8. I to have checked again this coming Monday morning. With the exception of a low sodium diet, my eating habits have not changed.

The coumadin nurse told me my body was probably getting used to the dosage.

Sounds like the 5 mg everyday is going to be your magic number..:) ..It's mine..Bonnie

Chloe takes 4mg daily to keep her within her range of 3-4.

When she first started warfarin 6 years ago, she was taking 1.5 and 2mg alternate days and it's gradually increased to where it is now.

Hey, Christina, I'm on 7.5 five days per week and 8.0 two days per week. It seems to be working pretty well for a change.

I take...

I take...

18 mgs daily. I started at 4 or 5 mgs 3 years ago and have steadily increased. I also still have blood drawn just about every week, because is it so NOT stabile.

Christina, interesting question, something I have often wondered about!

I take about 1 1/2 mgs perday. Since my ohs in Jan. 2001 and a St. Judes mechanical arotic valve my doseage has been pretty low. For years I averaged about 9 mgs per week. Recentley with some other medical concerns
I have been up and down a bit. Weekly testing probably shows more INR changes. I most often tested every 3-4 weeks unless I was out of range.

The last time I visited my old coumadin clinic I asked the nurse what determined doseage. She said they usually start someone out at about 5 mgs. per day and the INR testing determines thereafter. I figured weight , condition, sex , environment , etc. would be of some influence. According to her, not.

Question, does different mg pills influence the pricing of such, or are all mgs priced the same per pill? Probably a stupid question, but I am just curious.
I shell out for the main brand coumadin versus warfarin(heard it's manufacturing process is not as controlled as coumadin ( myth? )

Pretty hot in missouri today .

JOE/MO

P.S. Does some one have a list of all things other than doseage that affects INR?
