Good Morning! Justin is doing really well. They pulled the chest tube and he had some waterIce this morning, which felt so good. The plan is to get him up sitting in a chair in a little bit. So we couldn't ask for much more at this point. I am very grateful.
Last night, he was off the vent, but still had a small tube, about 6 inches and about 1/2 inch diameter long down his nose/ throat to keep everything open, around Midnight he was awake enough and was breathing well, so they were able to pull that. Between that and finally having Ice chips he felt much better.
For the most part the night went really well. I was awoken (I can sleep in his room)about 3am, to a nurse saying, call the doctor he just threw up all over his incision. It was a mess, but there were a few peopple there pretty quickly, so got him cleaned up and had to change his dressing. It hurt a little, especially when he had to sit up to change the sheets ect, but they give him something which helped and he did great. Actually he is so funny in the middle of this when they said they had to change the dressing, he said Mom get the camera you're missing this! lol. SO we have plenty of pictures of how great his incision looks just hours post op. Hi is intersting, that's the nice word I'll use, I won't say the first loving phrase he called me after surgery, when I missed his mouth with the ice cube. :)
Well hopefully next update will be in a few hours, he will have a few more lines out and be able to move around. And Yes for my friends at VR, I keep pushing the sprig at him lol.
My prayers for today are things keep moving in this great direction and they manage to keep doing as well a job of keeping his pain under control. We should have the laptop hooked up in his room soon so he will be able to read all his messages. Thank you all so much and thanks to everyone that are passing the updates on, I really appreciate it, since I just have been having time to update here. Thank you all again for the prayers and keep up the good work, Don , Lyn and Justin
ps Don went home last night and Zero was excited to see him, but then started looking for Justin and was sad. I can't wait for the dogs and Justin to be watching movies at home, Lyn

great news, way to go justin! sending more prayers out for you, hoping for you to have a continued good recovery!

Thanks, Janet. Justin definitely belongs in post surgery! Sounds wonderful and we hope to hear he is up and about soon.

Great thoughts and BIG prayers are coming your way for a smooth uneventful recovery for Justin!

I already posted on your web page but wanted to tell you again how glad I am that he is off the vent. Praying praying for no complications to slow his home going.

I think getting the tubes out is the best feeling, free from those damned drains. they do their job but boy are they annoying. Very strange sensation when they pull them out, i must say..

Thanks Lyn

Thanks Lyn

It is good to hear that he is managing in his own special way. Dogs alway worry when members of the "pack" don't return with the others, but be prepared for the big welcome when Justin and you return. I'm sure the dogs, like us will be very happy when you both are back home again!:)

Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone

Hi I haven't even checked me emails and just updatd Justin's page them and going to nap, but wanted to stop by here and officially "get' to post on the post op thread, How cool is that feeling"YEAH
first Justin is doing great, actually they have started to mention the H word for tomorrow, IF things are as good as they are doing now. his inceision looks great, they did end up putting him on bypass thru the groin, that incision is about 2 inchs long and a small part of his upper thigh is numb, but thy said, that should come back. He has been walking around started woking on laps, last night about 24 hour postop.Actually in a pretty cool hard rock button down shirt w/ guitars, I wonder if h will get suspicious if i ask him to strike a disco pose lol.
The surgons said he builds an incrdible amounts of scar tissue, he couldn't belive how much more there was in just the past 2 years, and this is a surgeon that a pretty high precentage of cases ar multiple redos.
Well I'll post later, off for a chest x ray, darn there went the nap lol there wil be plenty of time when we get home,
Thanks for the prayers, Lyn

The "loving phrase" I first heard out of his mouth when i dropped th ice on him was dumb ass as he shook his head, lol shame w don't still have his "baby books lol

So happy to hear from you, Lyn- I was getting worried- like you have nothing else to do but update us;) ! So happy that things are going so well and will keep our fingers crossed that you are all home soon!

Yeah, I had forgotten about that.

It will take a couple of months to come back, but really is no big deal. Coming home is- Woo Hoo:D

Here is Lyn's posting on caringbridge for those who can't access it:

Well It's Thurs afternoon, sorry so long since an update, but Justin is doing great, been walking, breathing exercises and all the good things needed to get better and out of here ASAP. We are out of the unit and on the really nice new stepdown unit, with I might add a beautiful corner room w/lots of windows. Last night they pulled all his lines except 1 "just incase" but nothing is going in it.
I'll write more later now that we have everything set up, but right now my back is bothering m a little, so want to lay down, but I know thre are people checking. Honestly for being less then 48 hours post op, it's amazing at how well he is doing and looks, even the nurses and doctors are surprised.
IF anyone was thinking of visiting, that would be great, just remember when you ask for him, his name is Donald Justin Wyatt. Thank you for all the prayers, I'm a big beliver that helped get him so far so fast. I'll update later Lyn

Way to Go Justin!

Way to Go Justin!

Sounds like Justin in doing really well. Glad to see your posting, as I was thinking about you guys today! He must be setting some kind of record if he gets to go home tomorrow! Tell him to keep up the good progress! Make sure you get some rest! Hard to do that in a hospital tho!:)
