Anyone else with me on this? You hear or say or read a word ... and it reminds you of something unrelated?

Example:

The word "argue" makes me hungry. Why? Because it reminds me of "barbecue".

No word associations come to mind, but a "sound association" does. The key reminder beeper in my daughter's Civic sounds exaxtly like my alarm clock -- so every time I get out of the car with the key still in the ignition, I feel as if I've just been awakened on a work day, and feel a momentary flash of tiredness!

I knew a couple whose husband hypnotized her once upon a time. Every time he said a particular word, she reacted with some sort of word or action (like crowing). It was really weird.

Words don't trigger much with me, but smells and songs do.

Songs resonate with me too Ann. "Running On Empty" by Jackson Browne always brings on a twinge of sadness because it was playing on the radio when I heard that one of my cousins had been killed in a car wreck. 1978....will never forget it.

My ex used Sex Appeal cologne by Jovan. It smelled wonderful but I hated it. Years after our parting, I was in New York one year waiting for the ferry to statue of Liberty and somewhere in that crowd some man was wearing Sex Appeal. I had to smell that stuff onto the ferry, all the way over - and back!

Hmm...think the "sound association" is another thread ;).

BUT....could be added to this one, too, I suppose ;).

Hmmm...maybe I didn't explain it very well ... kinda hard to explain, really. Could be a word or a phrase that, every time you hear it, makes you think of something else.... Or, perhaps, it's a word or phrase you savor ... that you love hearing.

And, yes, it could be sights or sounds that trigger thoughts of something else, too ;).

*shrugs*

Let's try these examples:

I'm not a Detroit Pistons fan, but "The Palace of Auburn Hills" just has a certain ring to it ... to me, anyway.

Or ... "Briley Parkway", a stretch of roadway in Nashville TN, has a certain ring to it for me....

*sighs*

Yeah, I know ... sense is not being made. Oh, well ... basically, just words or phrases or associations that stick with you whenever you hear 'em ... he he.

Ellie loves french fries, among many other things. Her Grandma introduced her to "french toast", which she also loves. Whenever Grandma mentions french toast, Ellie-ever so politely-explains that we are talking about "french fried toast".

Sorry to hear that Wise. For me, Running on empty brings back the memories of riding with my Brother in his 70 Dodge Trans AM Challenger 340 six pack. We were coming back from Cleveland and truly were running on empty while listening to the tune.

Thanks, Ross

Thanks, Ross

Your post made me to remember to tell hubby, my low fuel light came on..on the way back from pool. he gets mad at me..for running so low..but, I just put $30.00 in it on Sat. a.m. .....I have done it before and fugure I can get at least 20 more miles.:p But, he keeps a can of gas on hand for me..to get to nearest gas station.:D ........Back to cort's post..words, no..but was walking dog down a wooded lane and smelled the Honeysuckle....There is a smell that a southern gal always remembers..:) ..mainly grows wild......but, what a sweet smell of summer. Out of the mouths of babes, eh, Dennis?!

That is CUTE! he he

I love playing around with my friends' kids on my road trips ... kids really do say the darnest things. And, sometimes, they can really surprise you. Last year, when I visited friends in Jackson TN, their oldest was in Indiana visiting a set of grandparents. Kevin explained how they had been talking online with her every night. So, that evening, when they got on the computer to talk to her (they have video conferencing), I stood back in the "shadows" ... they hadn't told her that I was there because they knew she'd want to come home. Well, wouldn't you know ... the first thing out of her mouth was ... "Do I see Cort in the background?!" He he

Got it!
When I hear "Route 66" I think of lazy summer days, little cafe stops,
driving down a two lane road through central Illinois on the way to Wisconsin.
Of course, Route 66 extends all the way to Arizona, and goes through many states other than Illinois, but I never think of that!

I dated a girl who laughed like a machine gun (you know the laugh) When I hear a machine gun blast on TV or the movie it reminds me of her. It was quite annoying, she laughed at the drop of a hat. Great gal but.......lets just say the laugh out weighed her other qualities;) :p ;)

Didn't you have duct tape in your "date kit"????

When I was in college, I took this very popular class called "Human Sexuality," where we learned about STDs, among other things. Now I can't hear the words or actually see cottage cheese without thinking about yeast infections and itching! :D :D :D That's probably way too visual and not what Cort wanted to hear when he started this thread!

*grins devilishly and slightly blushes*

Yeah ... well ... uh....

That IS, actually, along the lines of the theme ...

but

Um

I still like cottage cheese.

And, I still want sex.

;)
