My 80YO mom had knee joint replacement May 22. She's in rehab now and is on Lovenox to prevent clots. After a few days, I have been told, she will switch to Coumadin for a while. SOP w/ joint replacement.

Today she complained about feeling like she is freezing to death -- shivering profusely, she said. She says this is because of the "shots."

I didn't see cold intolerance listed on the internet as a side effect of Lovenox. She is a diabetic, on insulin. Don't now what other meds she is on. She said she's not running a fever.

I suggested she have my dad bring her a warm-up jacket from home, or put on her bath robe (it's a fairly thick one).

Am interested in any side effects folks have had with Lovenox. I haven't had to use it yet.

Gosh, Marsha, her shivering sure sounds more like glucose issues than Lovenox. I get almost uncontrollable shivering when my glucose levels are messed up. Is she good about checking her glucose levels?

At home, Mom is really good about checking her glucose levels -- before every meal. Takes her glucometer & insulin with her when she goes out to eat.
I wonder if the folks at the rehab center are just as good about checking. Might be place to start.

Just talked to my mom & related your info. Her blood sugar level was 140 this a.m. She said she's not as cold today.
I did notice something about diabetes in the info about Lovenox.

While on Lovenox I enjoyed feeling a little on the warm side as opposaed to feeling too cold on warfarin.
