Liza,

I have not had surgery yet, so I spend alot of my time educating myself through this site. These people have been WONDERFUL in helping calm my nerves and helping me understand those big words used by the doctors.

I am a worry wart (so my husband calls me) and I am on celexa which helps. As my General Doctor says, anyone who has heart problems will experience anxiety of some sort. My Cardiologist was not nearly as understanding as my PCP in the anxiety department.

To help with my stress (which is minimal because I have a sweet hubby, two small children, etc.) I do yoga and I walk. I highly recommend the yoga. It is a great stress reliever.

Good luck to you!

I just Googled "mitral valve" "panic attacks". You will be surprised at all the information there is about that combination. Try it yourself. Use the quotations like I did.

It is a well-documented relationship between panic attacks and mitral valve problems. Perhaps they should rename the valve related "panic attacks" so they don't get confused with other panic attacks. That would make more sense. I am sure they are not triggered by the same things at all.

Liza, I understand where you're coming from with the don't belong feelings. I have BAV, MVP, and appear to most people as laid back and calm. I'm usually nervous inside and have to battle depression. I have felt for many years that a lot of it is heart related. I've also been a "nerd that didn't fit in" since high school, and way before that too. I can tend to think that I don't deserve to be here as a member, since I may be so far away from needing surgery. Then, I just remember how I've been able to hang onto my sanity because of vr.com and I toss out the "not belonging" thoughts. This is the first place where I've felt like I've received much understanding, other than with my wife who puts up with my nervous, paranoid self.

I hope you are feeling better. Look forward to more updates on how you're doing.
