According to this mornings' news one of our favourite Rock'n'rollers Jimmy Barnes is to undergo an AVR on Feb. 22nd to replace his birth defect a dodgy Aortic valve...
Gee this operation is becoming popular!...

I've said there are more people then we realize that have had it or will have it when we walk by them daily.

That is interesting. I'm sure there are more celebrities who've had valve surgery than we know. Someone should find out which famous people have had valve surgery and post it. It would be interesting to see! For example, I know Arnold Schwarzenegger had an AVR ten years ago, and his surgeon was mine. Although I knew about the surgery a long time ago, I didn't know Dr. Starnes did the surgery until a few months after my own.

This surgery is tomorrow - http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21263377-2,00.html

Anyway, thought I would let the rest of our Aussie members know that there is an article about AVR surgery in this week's edition of The Bulletin - and if you look at the author of the article it is Ben McKelvey - I thought I recognised the name and realised that Ben was one of our VR.com members - so well done Ben - great article!! :) Unfortunately the article is not available online :(

Are we assuming it's a bicuspid aortic valve? I couldn't tell from reading the story. And Ben McKelvey isn't ringing a bell with me for usernames. Come on!
Spill the beans! Who is it?:p :D :D

Mary:

I googled Ben McKelvey (looks like he's got a successful career going!) for clues; I did an advanced search and came up with nothing. Then I thought I'd peruse the Members List starting with the Ben's and, lo and behold, his user name is "Benmckelvey". Tricky! Can't fool me!:D

years ago (early 2000s) there was a rock star from down under who was a member of a Dr Rich's forum in about.com. I doubt it was this man because his lifestyle apparently didn't lend itselt to exploration of a heart problem. Heart problems are all over the place. My nurse cousin retired from a famous hospital in Houston and she tells of BIG names from all over the world who were treated there. They were whisked in, whisked out, but all were treated same as other patients. At least on her level of service. Most were very nice but occasionally they had one who used his/her fame.

It was a great story by Ben...thanks for that link...
I bet JB is busy learnng his breathing and walking exercises by now!
