Report:

Ellie had a pretty good night, no spiking fevers. We were up early (about 4:30 for me) to be ready to get the early morning report. She still has the IV to stay hydrated, and still sounds pretty sick & pitiful to me. Stephanie was talking to us about how caring the staff has been-but Ellie starts crying whenever anyone comes into the room, because they always do something that hurts her.

We got all the information we needed and hung up the phone, as Steph heard some of the staff coming down the hall to their room. To understand "the rest of the story", I need to tell you that Joe-Ellie's daddy-is an incredibly gifted musician, and it seems that Ellie has a lot of those genes. She loves music, and is a pretty good little dancer, even at age 18 months. Now back to the main story--

Thirty seconds after hanging up, the phone rang again. I picked it up with a little apprehension. I could hear some emotion in Steph's voice. Emotion because--the hospital staff had comein to sing Puerto Rican Christmas carols, and brought Ellie some Christmas presents. Steph had called so we could listen to the carols over the phone. I think what got Steph (and got me when she told me about it) was Ellie-too sick to dance, but waiving her little arms-even the one with the IV-to their music.

How I love these people I may never meet. This wonderful medical staff in Puerto Rico--and each of you, spread across the globe.

We are not done with this yet, and I will keep evryone informed--We may well be headed to the Merriest Christmas ever when we get to Puerto Rico in a week.

Thank you for the update. I'm glad she had a better night. What a great staff to do something so sweet for Ellie, her parents and her grandparents.

Good news, Dennis- hoping and praying that Ellie will be dancing and singing Christmas carols with her parents and grandparents in a week.:D

Dear Dennis:

We join others here in wishing Ellie a very speedy recovery!

Dennis, I was so relieved as I read your last post. And it sounds like little Ellie is doing better. I'm also thankful that the hospital staff is so caring. They are not only taking care of her physical problem but are also taking care of her and her parents emotionally by coming and singing Christmas carols. God bless them! Keep us posted on Ellie's progress. P.S. You know, for the last few years, there has been a commercial on TV about the RSV virus. In a nut shell, it talks about RSV striking premature babies during the cold and flu season. I never googled it, but am glad to know more about it now. LINDA

How sweet! I can picture that little cutie of yours arm-dancing in her bed. It sounds like she's starting to bounce back.:)

Well, if the environment has any bearing on recovery, it sounds like Ellie will be up and running soon.

Continuing to pray.

that RSV can be a pretty scary thing, so glad that she is in the hospital and getting great care!
keep us posted!

Things are looking up!

Things are looking up!

I talked to Steph about an hour ago. Ellie went in weighing 21 pounds and is down around 20 pounds. However, she is finally showing some interest in eating & drinking. When the staff showed up with carols and presents, they included some Hershey's kisses. Steph has been giving Ellie the little swirled tops of the kisses, and she is eating them. She also wanted some of a donut, and a bit of bread. The Dr. said to feed her anything that might tempt her to eat.

She has not had a fever all day. When Ellie is healthy-and wants your attention-and it is deemed too slow in coming-she might decide to grab your attention with a healthy squawk. Grandpa has sometimes referred to her as his Puerto Rican parrot. It was a little weak, but when Mom was spending too much time on the phone with Grandpa, and didn?t keep up with the chocolate, I heard a feeble, but definitely recognizable-and beautiful-squawk.

Ellie is learning to speak, and has a limited vocabulary. But she has made it clear to her Mom that she wants to leave the hospital and go home. Now that is a feeling we can all identify with!

Thanks for the update, Dennis- sounds like she is on the mend and hopefully home is in the near future!

Great news, Dennis!! I wish we adults could bounce back so fast. Sounds like she is well on her way to recovery. Our prayers have been answered. LINDA
