I don't know the answer to this, but don't you think they'd replace both when the first one wore out? That would at least minimize the number of total surgeries.

That would seem logical. But I recall a posting here at some point in time that led me to believe that our logic isn't necessarily the surgeon's logic. We have some members who have had 2 or more valves replaced at one time. Hopefully they'll be along to tell us what they were informed of. At this point, it's just speculation on my part based on fuzzy recall.

Because he thought that would be too long considering I'm at 0.8  And, probably because of the symptoms I am having, one of which is driving me nuts and that is the throat pulsating and stuff!

OH!! I had forgotten all about that dreadful throat thing!! It is gone!! That and a bunch of blippy twinges and pinches and throbbing feelings..... oh! it is wonderful to be done with those! (not to mention the SOB and massive heart pounding at everything stressful and strenuous) Thank you for reminding me!! :D More reasons to celebrate my 6 month post-op tomorrow!! :D :D :D

Gather up as much info as you can and ruminate over it all. Then, take a break, really, a significant few days off thinking about it.... and come back to it. You will know.

Then, let us know! ;)

Hi Lynn,

Can I just ask what you mean by your throat pulsating?? (Just had never heard of this symptom!!!) - Cheers Jeanne

Sure, I just have this *full* feeling in my throat, it pulsates alot also. I feel like I should have a sore throat but when I swallow, nothing. Very weird. I don't know if that's what others feel also but it's driving me crazy!!!!

Lynn, I was reading this and couldnt help but reapond. You have been thru so much already. God bless you. I will pray for you that all will go well as Im sure it will for you. Best of luck.

Thanks for that Lynn - so many things to be learnt from reading this site!! Good luck again with everything - Jeanne

Lynn,

Glad you like your surgeon - certainly a very important part of all this.

Just for the record - I learned to scuba dive after I started ACT. I also shoot shotguns, pistols and rifles both before and after ACT. I raced sailboats, rode off-road and on-road motorcycles, ride horses, cook a great deal (use of very sharp knives), etc., etc., etc. I do not let my ACT interfere with anything I want to do.

I will be on coumadin for 26 years come Halloween. There are no guarantees but there are many of us who do just fine with mechanical valves.

Best of luck to you whatever you decide. The decision to have the surgery is the most important one.
