I just had my annual exam today and when my cardio saw my wires so close to the surface of my skin, he said, "those have to come out"! They just look like they could poke right through my skin and as I explained a while back, they're painful when I move certain ways.

As much as I don't want to go through another surgery, it will be nice to finally be rid of them!!

Everything else got an A+ with my exam, very happy about that!:D

Thanks to everyone that had responded to my thread a while back about having wires removed. I'm not as nervous as I was after hearing that it's not all that bad. I don't have a surgery date yet as I have to meet with the surgeon on 9/27, so I'm assuming probably a week or two after that. I do have to go to the same place I had my OHS done, as our small little town doesn't have any cardiac surgeons here. It's about a 90 minute drive, so not too bad.

I would like to hear of any other experiences with having wires removed. Only good experiences ;) .....just kidding. I guess we need to know the good and the bad.

Thank you!!

Hey DeeDee,
Glad to hear your checkup went well.:)
I hope everything goes ok with the removal of your wires.
Keep us posted.

Hi Dee, Sorry to hear about your wire worries. I had my 6-8 wires removed about 3 months after surgery, The surgeon who replaced/repaired my valves was the one who removed the wires. He went right over the already existing scar and there was no additional scarring. It wasn't bad at all but I had to spend 6 days in the hospital, Same amount for my OHS. I think the problem was the heparin and my unstable INR. I was so happy once they were out, I could feel the difference right away. Good luck with your wires and Take care!

Thanks for the replies Dave and Nicole!!

Wow, Nicole, I guess I didn't really think about the INR worries.... 6 days....that's wild! You know the surgeon might have a different idea of it just being "day surgery" because of the INR issue...that was just my cardio saying it's day surgery. I guess I'll know more in a couple weeks and we'll just hope that my INR behaves!! It is pretty erratic at times!!

Thanks for sharing your story and thanks Dave for the thoughts:)

Glad to read that your checkup went well. Best wishes with the wire removal. Keep us posted.

I had mine removed in day surgery - started around 11:00, home by 6:00. I did the Lovenox bridge. Bruising was horrendous, but other than that, it went very well. I was back at work the next day.

That's refreshing to hear that it truely was a "day surgery"!! I'm so hoping for that!!! :p
