I last posted about 2 weeks ago after my wife had a TEE for suspected mitral valve leakage and the possibility of having to have surgery again. (she had avr in Jan 2005, and previously diagnosed with Shone's)

She had her cardio appointment today and yes there is leakage around the mitral valve but the cardio and the surgeon discussed that this was normal FOR HER and as long as it doesnt progress there is nothing to be done at this point except monitor every 6 months or so. The Drs. were concerned but not alarmist. The good news is the Aortic valve is functioning perfect!!! She is essentially asymptomatic at this point except for some mild chronic fatigue, ??etilogy,,, she has also recently (past 3 months) gained some weight about 10lbs, (not fluid, combination of nerves, overeating, vacations and falling off her excercise program) so it is suspected that the extra weight she is carrying around may be fatiguing her. The cardio suggested a walking regimen of about 2 miles or so every other day.

So I guess we just put this in the back of our minds for now and pray nothing changes over time. Is this guarded optimism or pessimism??????

Thanks for listening

Hi, I think that overall the reasoning makes sense. It would be nice to have "normal" tests but in reality almost anyone who has undergone major heart surgery will always have something that would not be "normal" for someone without the same history. So, monitoring it every six months or so seems like a good idea. If after a couple of years nothing changes then kick it back to once a year.

It sounds to me to be better than what it might have been; therefore, it's positive!:)

sounds like good news to me. So just go on about your daily lives and keep your ears/eyes out for any changes. She will know when that is so not to worry unless there is something to worry about. You always know where we are.
