my dream vacation - Rome, Venice, Irland - anywhere old, and I mean really old, architecture exists.. I would love to photograph buildings that are older then our own country is. to see that they are still standing, knowing that people hundreds and hundreds of years before us walked the same halls as we can today.

my somewhat realistic vacation - as one of my passions is cooking, I would love to be a "Rachel Ray" and travel to different cities and sample local cuisine; and photograph my journeys as I go.

in the mean time - i'm still trying to figure out where I want to go THIS year.. seeing as i'll be going by myself.. I prefer to go where I know of some people.. I have 8 vacation days to use before EOY.. since I haven't taken a vacation in over 3 years ( a real vacation, not just a day here and there) i'm debating on visiting someplace I haven't been to for a day or two and break up those visits among several towns, or take a week and visit Dallas where I used to live and know i'll be busy for most of my trip.. decisions, decisions ;)

Ooh! If you come to Dallas when Cort does we can have a big ol' VR gathering! :D Come on... You know you wanna. ;)

Christine,
Since you love architecture and live in PA, have you been to Falling Water, the home that Frank Lloyd Wright designed? My SO and I have been a few times and it is unique each time. If you plan ahead, you can arrange for a private tour (highly recommended as the regular tours are way too fast).
I agree with you about food sampling. We have a local website here in Cincy that offers $50 dining cards for $25 each week. The restaurants change each week and there are so many different types of cuisine from casual to high end. It is a great way to try new things and not spend a ton of money.

As far as my place to go - I am still waiting on visiting Kenya to see giraffes in the wild. When I manage to get there, I will stay at Giraffe Manor outside Nairobi. I am determined to make it there before I leave this world.

hey Gina, nope, sorry - never been to Falling Water... definately need to look that one up.. thanks for the info

Niki - that would be cool to meet ya'll! ... have yet to meet anyone who has valve issues let alone anyone from here.. not sure what i'm doing yet.. I have a friend in Bartlett IL, (near chicago) who i'm trying to plan a day with (do a weekend trip) but I would still have the other weekend day to fill - so i'm still working on that one.. if i don't go there (which would be cheaper and allow me to take off on other days before EOY) then i'm going to do Dallas.. while Dallas is more costly, I would have several places I could stay (Flower Mound, Plano or The Colony.. most like The Colony) I have a friend who would try to take off work and fly up from Houston for lunch one day... plus see some other ol' friends.. I used to hang out in the Richardson area, but loss touch with most of those as I hardly drink let alone do the bar scene anymore.. but I do have a craving for Razzoo's fried pickles.. would love to eat at Baby Doe's or Papasitoe's (sp?) on the high end, for fun - I miss Joe's Crab Shack.. I'm still working the vacation thing, see what I come up with and will let you know...

Ross, I just now clicked on your link... I didn't know they sold Yuengling beer there (whereever there is, couldn't find an address, but didn't really look very hard either ;-).. thought that was just regional.. (I know, because I tried to get their Black and Tan shipped to Dallas years back - and yes, i'm a chic who likes a good dark beer every now and then - preferably Black and Tans from tap) but latley, I'm into Yuenglings Lager or Molsens' - I live about an hour from Yuengling's HQ/plant up in coal cracker country - Pottsville.

enjoy your day

Chris

Hey GeeBee, Falling Water

Hey GeeBee, Falling Water

Never saw it in person. We studied Wright when I was working on my degree. Fascinating stuff. He has a real cool building on campus in Phoenix which I got to see. Is it as neat as the pics and drawings look?

I'd like to see the Atlantic Provinces, including Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island. Has anyone been there?

Sherry - Jim & I went to the Maritimes for a couple of weeks for our 25th wedding anniversary. Can't wait to go back. The exchange rate is great, too. Drove up from NY to Maine and took the "Cat" - a huge ferry from Bar Harbor to (I think) Halifax. It was a great trip.

If a Dallas get-togther happens, please let me know.

IF? Oh, no, bud, WHEN it happens :). Just be sure to watch for my "road trip" posts ... especially the October 2006 trip post ... that'll have details for sure. I know Niki will be there ... sure hope Marsha (catwoman) will be there again. And, as far as I know, Suzy will be there as well. Can't forget Janet and our dearest Katie, too :).

Falling Water is even better in person. You get to see all the little touches he put into his homes. When he designed a home, he did furniture, lighting, landscaping, etc. He is everywhere in the home.
Taliesin West, near Scottsdale, AZ is another amazing place. In addition to the home, there is a school and many out buidings that are on a wonderful piece of property.

Where...

Where...

I scarcely get down to my mother's which is only an hour away. It's the only place I've ever felt at home, though I never lived there! I love the coast, sailing, and kayaking. Would like to make a grand tour around the country visiting all my sailing, and VR friends! I also love Maine, and hope to get up there in the next year or so. For international destinations, I'd pick New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the UK.:) Brian

I remember well your adventures surrounding the October 2004 VR Reunion ;). IIRC, we "traded places" somewhat in terms of where I went before and after that reunion ... and where ya'll went, too :).

I would LOVE to go to Falling Water as well. Like David, I've only studied it at school.

Aside from that, I'd also like to go to Alaska, Spain, Greece, and Easter Island.

Places to go

Places to go

I'd love to go back to Italy, but I'd also love to go to England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel. I don't know if any of those will happen, but I'd love to see Maine, New Hampshire and the rest of New England.
If any Valver is in Texas, let me know. I'm there.:D

I would LOVE to go back to Florida (as lots of you know!) but would also like to see New York and other parts of America too.

Other than that, Egypt is always somewhere I've wanted to visit.

I ended up having a layover in Ohio on my way back from WV a few weeks ago. I thought of you... ;)

I guess I should actually answer this question. There are a lot of places I'd like to go. I'm REALLY wanting to make it back to New York (Broadway, baby!) so that my husband can see it. I would love to go back to London, as well as visiting Ireland and Scotland (Scotland was a long time dream as a kid). My husband and I have also talked about doing a 6 month "traveling nursing" stint in Austrailia (though I don't know if my heart would let me). And I would like to go to Prague, because my best friend from high school lives there and I hear it's beautiful...

Okay, I could go on and on. I would travel all over the world if I had the time or the money (mostly the money).
