Friends, I wanted to ask you all to keep my husband in your thoughts. He fell while rollerblading with me on July 4 and broke his pelvis in three places. He will have surgery to push the fractures back into place and get screwed together with metal plates late this afternoon (July 6). He is in traction and in a great deal of pain, but is expected to make a full recovery.

HOLY TOLEDO!!! He doesn't mess around when he hurts himself, does he?

I'm so sorry for him - what a way to spend a summer. I do hope his surgery goes well and they're able to reduce his pain.

Good thoughts & prayers coming his way.

I can feel the pain! I know what it was like to have a hip replaced, so I'm sure it's that pain X2. Man he does it up right huh? You got them coming from me.

Please know that he is in my thoughts...hoping for a quick and relatively pain free recovery.

Oh I'm so sorry, PJ. He must be in quite a bit of pain. Nasty.

Please be careful of yourself as you get ready to help him with his recovery. You shouldn't be lifting him about or anything like that, should you?

Sending positive thoughts your way. Keep us posted on his progress.

Marguerite

Sorry to here about your misfortune. Exercising can be dangerous.lol I sent a prayer for you.

ouch that sounds so painful, of course he is in my prayers that he heals ASAP and they are able to control his pain, and of course that you take care of yourself and get some rest that you will need for when he gets home, Lyn

Ouch P.J.,
That sounds really painful, I wish him the best with the surgery and recovery.

PJ,
One of my BILs broke his pelvis after a very hard landing from sky diving. It is a very painful and a somewhat long recovery. I will start praying now for your husband as well as for you since you are right there along with him.
I wish him the best and know this is an injury that heals well.

PJ, mega-ouch! I am so sorry about this accident. I will keep your husband and you in my prayers. Glad to hear full recovery is expected but I know it will not be easy for you all for a while.

Oh, my gosh! That is terrible. I can't imagine how painful that must be, and will be for some time to come as he starts to walk.

He'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello All:

My husband, Hank, had his surgery last night (45 hours after arrival at the trauma hospital he was transferred to--he spent this time in traction! What a torturous wait!) beginning at 9:00. It lasted 1 and a half hours not including closure. The surgeon (supposedly world-renowned***shrug***) said he was "bleeding like a stuck pig" from his pelvic bones, but that stopped completely as soon as the displaced fractures were put back in place. Hank now sports two plates--a five-inch one and a 2 1/2-inch one--with 8 screws in total ranging from 1 1/4" to 5" long! He was back in his room by 1:00 a.m., obviously feeling quite a bit of pain and deleriously worried about work and sweetly declaring his appreciation of me.

He slept fitfully with full-on delaudid (sp?) dosing and awoke still very much in pain. He was thankful to have gotten rid of the traction contraption. Today began with a whole new array of torturous adventures including six bed transfers (ouch! x 6) to have a CT and an x-ray and a lesson in independently getting out of bed, walking with a walker, and sitting in a special high-seated chair--all with his newly cut and re-attached abdominals. Today's highlight thusfar has been a sponge bath complete with shampooing! He is will be discharged Sunday or Monday.

Hank is facing a long, difficult, and painful recovery, but he is expected to return to 100% with no long-term restrictions (except perhaps rollerblading--I'm thinking of using them in a sculpture...). He is bouyed by all the good wishes expressed by friends, co-workers and family members and is amazed by the out-pouring from my valver buddies (he doesn't know you like I do;) ).

Thanks so much, friends.
