As I have often mentioned, there are many combat veterans within our local Pueblos. We had a great parade today, and there is nothing like a small town 4th of July parade. I hope to post at least 1 parade picture later. This guy portrayed the essence of the 4th of July in my mind. I got this picture of him while he enjoyed watching the parade go by.

I remember WWII as a child.Everybody was so patriotic and on the same page. I remember my dad's (and neighbors) ear glued to the radio for news. Then they stood over their farm fences and discussed it all. How frightening for me because I was little, but I wanted to hear so I eavesdropped - then dreamed horrid dreams. In school we brought newspapers, tins, balls of the silver paper from gum, those in cities planted little gardens, theaters passed out cups to collect for the Red Cross. So many things were done to include every single citizen. When we see a picture like this one, the very image shows the respect, love and loyalty to the U.S.A. that was total back then. Those soldiers saved us from becoming a property of Germany or Japan. What a different world we'd be living in. It was close.

And look what they preserved!

This is the float from our little library. I love the way our little town celebrates the fourth of July. The firetrucks and ambulences are out with ribbons and draped with kids. Getting a seat on the top of the biggest firetruck is a child's lottery. We have a small library that's getting started, and these kids hang out there a lot. The two girls at the back were star students and best friends in my wife's second grade class.

It was a great day to enjoy our freedom, and I have always seen a vibrant connection between freedom and libraries.

Once again Dennis, thank you so much for sharing your photos. Loved the photo of the vet!

I have always loved our town's 4th parade and our kids have marched in many of them when they were children. It really give you a sense of community when you attend one.

Dennis, thank you, and if you get the chance, thank him for me. We all owe so much to our vets, and especially the WWII folks. Brian
