Taking my cue from the Wisconsin crew, I am wondering who here is from New England? I am from Boston ( a little north in a lovely seaport town) and I go to Children's Hospital for all my cardio stuff! Who and where are you ?:D

LB

Hi Lady Blue....I am in New Hampshire.....

Hi Lady Blue....I am in New Hampshire.....

I am about an hour north of you in Dover, New Hampshire...right now I don't have a Cardio as I have found the Dr.'s in my area to be very non chalant and don't seem to take their patients very seriously....I have CHF and valve issues due to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (Stiffening Heart), but they don't seem to want to do anything until it's too late...Anyway, welcome fellow New Englander!! Take Care, Harrybaby:D :D :D :D :D :D

Hi, I am a New Englander, born and lived in Maine until 7 years ago, moved to Florida and just last week moved into a new home in South Carolina... Rose

Hi LadyBlue. I was born and raised in the "lovely seaport town" of Newburyport, north of Boston, and graduated from the University of Maine. I have since developed ties to Chicago, Southern California, and, now, Michigan.

Hello LadyBlue,

Greetings from 30 miles west of Boston! Lucky you - we love the North Shore - we spend a week in Rockport every July.
I see a cardiologist who practices at the Heart Center affiliated with a local hospital.

Hey summer is finally here!!! Enjoy!

Excellent!

Harrybaby! My best friend lives in Durham, NH ! Very pretty area! I love the Great Bay area and it has some of the most spectacular sunsets that you can see inland up there. I always enjoy my drive on 95 to Rte 4 to visit him!:D

Nancy, You are an honorary New Englander then!

rbl1999, What part of Maine? I love Down East of course, and I look forward to wild blueberry time for my yearly summer muffins and pies fix! Here's a post card for you! ;)

PJmomrunner...I live in Newburyport now! All the boats are out on the river and PI is just heavenly this time of year! I like Newburyport, and moved here about a year and a half ago from Newton ( where I am from) and love it, but it's not a place for single people! Here's your postcard! ;)

Beautiful_Newburyport.jpg

susieq14, I used to live in Metro West ( Medway) for 7 years. I had a beautiful house and Martha Stewart gardens. I made the mistake of selling it all when my 12 year relationship ended ( on good terms). I adore Rockport! When I was looking for a new house, I picked all the North Shore seaport towns, including Rockport and Gloucester, Marblehead, Nahant, Ipswitch and NBRT. NBRT has huge old houses so I got more house for my money up here! I love it as I feel close to all the seaports up here, including beautiful North Hampton and Rye beaches in NH, and my favorite areas of Ogunquit and Kennebunkport, ME ! Not to exclude the lovely South Shore, I spent many a summer on the lovely Vineyard.

When you are in Rockport, give a shout, maybe we can meet for a late lunch and then take a stroll on Long Beach after the tourists leave for the day!

The Boston and New England areas are very special indeed. There is so much natural beauty like the sea, the mountains and the 4 distinct seasons,( I can without too much cold or hot tho...you know, the heart has to work harder in extreme temperatures) with NYC just hours away. If I wasn't born here, I think I would have moved here, anyway.

:D

New Englanders here?

CT here. Matt is a Yale kid and also had surgery at UoM, Mott's.

Love New England

Love New England

Hello all, I don't post very often because I'm still in the waiting room and don't feel I have very much to offer anyone at this point. I do read the forums all the time though.

I grew up in southeastern Mass and summered in Tiverton RI where we still have a summer cottage. I lived and went to school in Boston for ten years and now live in Dublin, New Hampshire. Ladyblue I am a nurse and was at Children's for those ten years during the seventies. My cardio is at B&W but I am still not sure where I will have my AVR.

My stepson and his wife and 2 year old lived in Newburyport until recently when they bought a bigger house in Amesbury.

I think we have the best of all worlds in NE and I love it. We do go to FL frequently in the winter to get some sun but NE is our home.

Maybe we should think of a NE get-together sometime?

Best to all, Barbara

Barbara,

Hi ! I was thinking the same thing! That could be nice! :D Maybe in the fall after the tourist go home...;)

Tiverton RI is really nice, and Dublin, NH is so charming. Every one in NBRT is moving to Amesbury, it's the "up and coming " place on the North Shore!! I think it has really nice restaurants and I love the Merrimac River in that area. The bird society here help rehabilitate bald eagles, and now we have many in the area up and down the river. It's amazing to see these very majestic birds flying around in the area, and I'm glad they are off the endangered list!

JeanneImp,

My very first OHS was at Yale when I was 6 years old. I have not been to New Haven other than on the train to NYC for many many years. It's a really nice area.

Yes, I do get around.:) I like to go places, and my ex and I lived in a variety of spots in NE. He and I enjoyed doing a lot of traveling in NE over the years.

How very wonderful that there are now bald eagles on the Merrimac--they've really made a comeback. I go to upstate NY every summer and we see them there too. My dad and I used to put a small boat in the water at a ramp in Cashman park (Oooh! Do they still do the fireworks there on the 4th of July?) and head down the river to fish off of Plum Island or, sometimes Hampton or even the Isles of Shoals.

Thanks for the postcard, LadyBlue. Your posts bring back so many memories. I often think of Newburyport's walkability and how much I miss that. I walked to every school I went to (Belleville (now Bresnahan, I believe), R. A. Nock and NHS). I walked to the dentist on Harris St. for after school appointments, to the Greek church, also on Harris St. for dance lessons, to the YMCA to swim, to the downtown area to shop, and we rode bikes everywhere we didn't walk--including Amesbury. I also had a paper route along High St. from Lafayette St. to the Rt. 1 on-ramp, including Dexter Lane. My own kids don't do any of that--it's just not centralized enough. :( I do have an aunt and uncle who still live in Nbpt. and other family still in the surrounding area, so I get back some, but I don't see a lot of Nbpt. Five generations of my family lived in Nbpt.

...Yikes!...I was transported for a few minutes there! I'll bet the singles scene is tough...

My parents are from Massachusetts.

I spent all my summers growing up in Middleboro Mass, and lived in Weston, MA and Southampton, MA at various times. Graduated high school in Cheshire, CT, and lived in Waterbury for a while, while attending UConn.

I've been living in New Jersey, but we've gone back to my grandfather's roots and bought a place in Maine. He was from the Aroostook area. We're setting up a sometimes house in Lakeville, ME, and we're headed up there very shortly.

Best wishes,

Anyone here who has been to Cape Cod and to Bob Briggs' "Wee Packet" restaurant, between West Dennis and Harwich? I don't know if it is still in business, or whether Bob is still alive.

He had the BEST blueberry muffins. They were huge and moist.

PJmomrunner,

NBRT does not have fireworks on the 4th, they save it for Yankee Homecoming week. I can walk to Cushman Park to see them. I saw them last summer for the first time and had a great time. Yankee Homecoming is a big thing here, it's nine days, 7/29/2006 to 8/6/2006 , of every festivity you can image from beach parties, the famous parade ( people line the streets with lawn chairs several days in advance to pick a spot to watch it. It's weird to drive thru NBRT then and see all the chairs set up for several miles along High Street. :D ), the bed race ( totally a hilarious good time), road races, concerts in the park, and finally ending with the fireworks! NBRT is converted into a party town for all those days. There is something going on for every hour for someone during that time!

Newburyport's Yankee Homecoming is one of America's oldest, continually running festivals. During the 9-day festival, 200,000 tourists visit Newburyport to enjoy food, music, and ceaseless fun-filled activities.

Also, there is many fun things that go on, everyday, all year long here. The Christmas fests are really nice, and of course, the little shops are great for getting unique Christmas things ( great fudge shop..;) )

Yes, it's a great family area, and now turning into a retirement area ( like the Cape). I don't mind that, tho. It does not have a real focus for singles, no, so I have to go to Boston for dating ( dry spell right now..flutter put me on hold for a year and since eblation, I'm just starting to build strenght and confidence in my abilities for endurance like walking or driving. ) *sigh* I hate being single.....It's not all it's cracked up to be! LOL

Oh well, I sound like the tourist board! If you ever stop by, let me know!:D

tobagotwo, My ex got a PH.d in Civil Engineering at Uconn. I lived in Storrs with him for 2 years...I'm a big city girl, so it was a bit quiet for me there. Very pretty campus tho. Your house in Maine sounds like a very nice project. I just love Maine. It's motto is Vacation Land! :D

Nancy, Blueberry muffins.......mmmmmmm Maybe I'll make some this week. I went to a cookout yesterday and made a raspberry/lemon cake with a mild cream cheese frosting. It was yummy! It went really fast!

Do we have a recipe sticky on this forum? Perhaps we should start one? :p

Hello!!

My husband and I live in Massachusetts. We live in Longmeadow, a small suburb of Springfield at the Western part of the state.

We have been going to Rockport every summer for at least 30 years or so. Owned some property there for awhile as well. You live in a beautiful part of the country.

My husband goes to Mass General. Cardio is Dr. C.Boucher.

Hello LB

Hello LB

Hello LB,

I am also from the Boston area, just north in Reading. I hope you are doing well. I love the North shore and also love the Cape and the Vineyard. The traffic I can do without!!! I went to Brigham and Women's for my OHS. They did a good job.

George

NICE! Sounds like a North Shore Heart people gathering ( Rockport ?? hehe) could be arranged at some point!:D

Yes, with the beauty comes the ugly...traffic! It's hard to get on the beach or in good restaurants during peak times. As a "local" of NBRT, I am sometimes ( sometimes....) recognized by certain restaurants I visit and can get sort of VIP reatment ;) I have some tricks of the trade for being a local in a tourist town tho..:p

Geo...I go next door to B&W ...Children's Hospital...I'm a big kid anyway...:D For my possible VR ( no date yet) they will have a throat specialist from either B&W's or Mass General in the room with us to monitor my throat during intubation.

Nancy, thanks for recipe link, I will check it out. I have a few specialties I make ( high fibre, low fat, vegetarian...if I cooked meat it would taste like a shoe! )
