    Anyone Medication-Free after valve surgery?

Last time I was monitored, I no longer had a-fib but to be on the safe side, I was told (by cardiologist who is an electrophysiologist) to take a full aspirin a day (I do take an enteric one). The one good thing about the short bout with a-fib, though, was it allowed the neurologist to get...

    Anyone Medication-Free after valve surgery?

I'm 8 mos. post-surgery (avr) and wondering if anyone is completely heart medication free after having surgery? I was so happy when my cardiologist reduced my metropolol from 50mg to 25 mg daily. However, I started having frequent migraine auras - something I hadn't had in years. Saw a...

    question about hospital stay

I had an AVR last October and was in ICU less than 24 hours and then home on Day 5 post op. No complications and walked as much as I could to get out of there as soon as possible.

    Valve replacement with one kidney

Here's a thread I started when I found out a few months before AVR that I had one kidney: http://www.valvereplacement.org/forums/showthread.php?36025-Any-issues-with-one-kidney-amp-AVR&p=467252&highlight=#post467252

    New Logo

Very nice. As someone else stated - calm and serene feeling, as well as professional.

Must-do suggestions before surgery? Even if they're scary ...

I updated my living will and medical power of attorney. Not being a family that shares words easily, I also wrote letters to both of my children and my husband. Now I'm unsure what to do with those letters. Do I just keep them in the hidden place or destroy them? So far I've kept them.

    Advertisiment!

Just as I mute the TV during commercials, I simply ignored the ad - didn't even read it. Here in NJ school districts are in such dire need of generating revenue it looks like they are going to make it legal to put advertisements on school buses. It seems that is the way of the world these days...

7 Weeks Post Op & Back to Work Today

I was in excellent shape before the surgery and while my cardiologist offered rehab, I declined. From week 2 I walked three times a day. Greg, no I am not in real estate (and never thought about people assuming that until someone asked me the same question a few weeks ago). MLS stands for...

7 Weeks Post Op & Back to Work Today

Had my post-op check-up w/ surgeon yesterday. (was a bit disappointed that he no longer had the picture of my quadracuspid valve that he took on his blackberry during surgery - I really wanted to see it.) Went back to work today (desk job) and felt pretty good. I still have shortness of breath...

    Pericardial Rub

I am 6 weeks post-op and I also have the same sensation as you describe. I saw my cardiologist today and she said that it will eventually go away but couldn't predict a timeframe. Sometimes it does drive me nuts, though. I finally have my post-op visit with the surgeon next Tuesday so will...

Reminder: Medical Alert info bracelet, necklace, etc.

Is the bracelet just for people who have mechanical valves and are on coumadin? Is there any reason to have one for those of us that have tissue valves?

    Happy Thanksgiving !!

Let me also add a Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am 4 weeks post-op today and am not only thankful for the successful surgery but for all on this forum who have guided me both pre and post-op. I will be forever grateful.

    Swelling at top of incision

Thanks, all. I guess I have to learn to be more patient with this whole recovery thing (although being home is driving me crazy).
