Joe has chronic kidney failure and people with that condition can develop a situation in which Lovenox can build up in their system causing too much anticoagulation. In that case, he's subject to unexpected bleeding. And this did happen several years ago when he was on Lovenox prior to gallbladder surgery. He had a total bleedout and almost died. It took him 6 months or more to recover from that. He cannot take Fragmin either for the same reason.

Older folks also have to be careful of this problem too, so Joe has a double whammy.

The Heparin drip is what he has to have.

And being that I just came off of a Heparin drip, I can testify that it is no fun! We do what we must and that's all we can do.

Ross, you're right. It leaves you twiddling your thumbs prior and post the procedure. But for those who need the Heparin drip, there are no alternatives.

One doc mentioned the new drug Arixtra. But that was quickly forgotten. Joe really doesn't fit the parameters, I don't think.

Hi Nancy, sorry that Joe has to undergo the procedure even after they got rid of lots of fluid. Hopefully they can determine what the problem is and treat it without having to do more invasive stuff.

Continuing to keep you both in my thoughts.

Love you, Nancy

Keep the faith, we're all here praying for you and checking in to make sure things are going ok......You are both very special, you know!!!

Evelyn

Hope Joe is doing alright and that everything goes well tomorrow. My prayers and hugs are with you both.

Dear Nancy:

Just got home from a short weekend away, and wanted to see how you and Joe made out. I am so sorry to hear that they could not do the procedure as planned, and that is has been postponed before. Of course, I know you two have expereince with that type of thing happening.

I will include you in our prayers this evening, and hope that what they now see at the base of the lung is none other than old scar tissue. Or something as benign.

Please let us know as soon as feasible.

Marybeth

Procedure postponed until tomorrow. Joe is ready to eat the doctor for lunch, so I have to try to keep him happy. It's a tough go for Mr. triple type A, former manager. He could have had it done today by another doc, since his main doc is off. But it's better to wait for the main doc who understands the case. It's a pretty short standard procedure, but Joe is far from standard. So he agreed to wait for the man who knows the case the best.

Me too, Ross.

Anxious as can be. Can't imagine what Joe and Nancy are going through!

I hope for everyone's sake that there are no more postponements. Poor Joe. And poor Nancy!

gosh, you poor things...
i can't blame joe for wanting to eat him up!!! i know you must both have building anxiety and i feel for you, but first and foremost, as you said, nancy, the doc who knows the case is worth waiting for.
hope all goes smoothly and thanks for keeping us abreast of the situation.
thinking of you and praying.
all the best, sylvia

Joe had his procedure late this afternoon. He's in recovery, and I didn't get a chance to talk to the doctor. There was some last minute excitement. I'll fill ya'll in when I have more time, nothing horrible, just usual Joe stuff.

Just wanted to let you know.
