Hi Nicole,
I had one wire removed in the Dr's office. It broke and was stabbing me. I was off the coumadin 2 days. They gave me a local in the office...a few stiches and I was out of there. That was probably ten years ago. I thought he was going to lift me off the table being it was wrapped around the rib, but it was fine so that was the end of it.
But anytime you have to stop your coumadin there is a risk that goes with that...and they want to get you theraputic before they release you from the hospital, it could be longer one time I was in for a week waiting for the INR to rise. Better safe than sorry always. I was not as informed then as I am now and I'm sure I still have a long way to go, but I'm learning.
