I'm asking ones who have been through it, my lovely zipper scar is ready for lotions, gels, ointment, creams, any treatment that can help it fad ASAP

Please let me know what you've tried and how it worked, My next step will be getting a referral to a dermatologist, you know how expensive they can be!

Thanks in advance

Vitamin E lotion for one. Eucerin is what they gave me at the hospital, but I don't think it does much to help the scar.

I had to have a skin graft earlier this year. The donor site scar(nearly as long as my heart surgery scar) and the graft site are pretty minor looking, I think. The plastic surgeon only recommended the ongoing use of a moisturizing cream like the ladies use. I have put it on my heart surgery scar as well and it seems to be working.

Mine is Mary Kay "revitalizing moisture lotion". Not that I want to get more pink Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles out on the roads, but the darn stuff seems to have worked. Guess I should have put some on my face and head before they got so ugly??LOL

Vitamin E works pretty well. I had a big hypertrophic scar so I had it injected with Kenalog. Now, that's real pain. The plastic surgeon gave me some stuff called Scar Guard. That's the best stuff I have used so far.

Great sugguestions....

Great sugguestions....

I have vitamin E and and aloe mixture here, I've tried eucerin on my hands when I was working, it's a great lotion.

I hear Mary Kay products are great.

I'm going to check out scar guard, my scar is getting so irritated, I not sure if it's the several layers of clothes I now have to wear to keep warm in the Northeast cold winters, or somethings else.

Thanks again for the suggestions

the perfect scar ointment

the perfect scar ointment

Here is a ointment recipe I found on the web...let me know if it works.

NOTE: For external use only

1/4 cup lard
1/2 tsp clove oil
1 tsp ash
1/4 tsp. dried cinquefoil
1/4 tsp. dried mugwort
1/4 tsp. dried thistle
1/4 dried vervain
1/2 tsp. benzoin tincture

Ritual : Using a mortar and pestle, crush the dried herbs until almost powdered. In a small cauldron or saucepan, heat the lard over a low flame until it is melted completely. Add the herbs, the clove oil and chimney soot to the lard base and mix well. Add the benzoin as a natural preservative, stir together clockwise and then simmer for ten to fifteen minutes. Strain it through cheesecloth into a small heat resistant container and then allow it to cool. Store it in your refrigerator or in a cool dark place until it is ready to be used. On a night of the Full Moon, anoint your temples and Third Eye with a small amount of the flying ointment.

Here is the web site if you want more info.

Hi Terry,
I've used vitamin E as recommended by my surgeons. Just break open a capsule and rub it in! Has worked wonders so far on my heart surgery scar, mastectomy scar, appendectomy scar and now reconstruction scars. This is the cheapest and best way to do it!

Take care,
Zazzy

Hi Terry

Hi Terry

I have a scar on a scar on a scar and hate the new one with a vengeance....if I see no improvement in the next four to six months I am considering plastic surgery . However at the moment to encourage healing I am taking High dose Vitamin C ..2g daily and Evening Primose oil to improve tissue suppleness ...2gs daily. I am also using adhesice silicone dressings ...here called Cica Sheets (made by Smith and Nephew in the UK)..they are supposed to flatten ,soften and fade scars .
Goodluck with yours

I was useing something called Mederma. I really works but is kinda expensive. It is onion based(!) but doesn't smell all that bad. A friend was in a car accident and a nasty cut across hos forehead. He use Mederma, now can't even tell where the scar is.
For me, I was to lazy to keep putting it on regularly, but it worked when I did apply it.

Scars

Scars

When I was younger my scars bothered me alot. I have had 4 heart surgeries a thorochotomy and during my 3rd surgery they took a vein out of my upper thigh (they said it was just in case) that left a scar about 6 inches long. I look like a roadmap. They don't bother me anymore. I wear swimsuits, low cut blouses, just about anything I wore before I had the surgeries. I guess you could say I'm scared for life, I say it's because of the scars that I have life.:D I asked my husband one time how he could stand to look at those scars all the time, he replied "what scars".

I might pass on the witches brew, though my kids did swear I had a third eye.

I also have none of those ingredients, maybe if all else fails, I'll consider it

thanks for all the concerns...

thanks for all the concerns...

I check out scar guard, it's very expensive but the before and after pictures were amazing.

Zazzy
I'm using a vitaminE, aloe, and wheat germ ointment I got from the GNC, it helps sooth the scar for a while, but I'm not seeing any change in that reddish/purplish color, or the comfort
I'll give the capsules a try, thanks

Granbonny
I had a similar sleeping bra, the hooks in the front bothered my scar terribly, I recently spent 2 hours at a dept store bought 5 bras that are very comfortable.

It's not vanity, it's just very irritated, red/purple, and hurt when touched by anything, and it's winter here. so layering clothing is a must not to mention my heavy winter parka, with 2 sets of zippers and snaps right in front

I'll check out the cica sheets we might have something similar to that here, but under a different name.
3 scar on top of each other, I just can't imagin it.

Carbomedic
Mederma sounds familar to me, I'll have to check it out, and refresh my memory. Thanks

Pegne
The showing of the scar doesn't bother me, I'm half tempted to walk around, at home topless, (I'm too old for that look).
It's just sore, irritated and quite red/purple.

I consider it my winning battle wound.

Thanks for all the replies everyone,

Terry,
The Scar Guard is expensive but it works. My scar was red, bumpy, itchy. Ugh. Now it is much much better and really fading away (18 months post-op). I am not sure how much was Kenalog and how much is Scar Guard.
The silicone sheets helped me with the itching, but I had trouble keeping them on so I used to tape them in place and that was counter productive because I have an allergy to the adhesives in most band-aids and surgical tape. The steri-strips they put over my incision itched worse than the incision sight hurt!
