Hi all,

When do you think downhill skiing is appropriate?

I am 4 mths post op and doing fine. Started lifting and a little swimming.

I am planning a tahoe ski trip for Thanksgiving and would like to know If I should be ok to ski.

I am not a good skiier.

Cory

Hey Cory,
I think you should be able to ski anytime now. . .of course, I've never skied a day in my life, so what do I know? :D :D
Actually, I think our sternum's are pretty well healed.
But I might be wrong!

Hey Cory,

Glad to hear you're feeling well enough to ski...I can't wait to get there! I just started cardiac PT and I'll be right behind you.

I think 4 mos out is a little iffy for an inexperienced downhill skier - at that point I'd have hated to fall on a ski pole. Perhaps you'd be better off cross country skiing - great exercise and less chance of falling or getting hit by another skier.

The weather is not quite ready for skiing (85 today) here. Be sure to wear a helmet even though you'll look geeky (if you're on coumadin a head injury could be really bad - then again, even not on it, a head injury is not good). Have fun!
