Hello all. My AVR surgery is scheduled for next Thursday morning, September 25. I have been on the site somewhat less recently - lots to do wrapping up work life, home life, etc. and many caring people to connect with. I feel lucky to be able to do this with advance planning and with a certainty that I've researched and vetted as much as I can. I am particularly grateful to people here who answered questions and raised questions that made it possible for me to have more substantive conversations with the docs than might otherwise have been possible. There were important issues, such as the BAV/aneurysm issue, that I wouldn't have even known to ask about without the questions folks raised here.
After all the consulting, testing, etc., it appears that "all" I need is "simple" valve replacement. (The surgeon still evaluates the quality of the aortic root tissue at the time of surgery, but no aneurysms per the CT and no other known issues.) I've remained very healthy, am walking a few miles a day, and will walk the American Heart Association 5k in my home city tomorrow morning.
I will ask my S.O. or daughter to post letting people know that all is well following the surgery. Neither is a big computer person, so if you don't hear for a few days just know that this is the reason - and I will post when I can.
The best to all of you who are going through the same thing, have gone through this already, or will soon!
