Well, I finally saw the Infectious Disease guy the other day.

And wouldn't ya know it.... he really didn't have anything profound to speak of.
He said that being since I am not sick but yet still have the strep in my throat he would normally recommend nothing. But since I have a history of heart valve problems and surgery he isn't willing to make any reccomendation.

He prefers that I speak with my cardiologist about what steps should be taken next, since the Rifampin didn't work.

God Bless all,

Ben

Good grief Ben! Sounds like you are getting the same runaround I get when I go to the doc anymore. "Yeah, we agree that it is something... but I think another doc ought to figure this out and prescribe for it." Sheesh!!!

Seems to me that they should be able to find something that will clear this up. Interestingly enough, the infectious disease doc I saw told me much the same.... only he told me to go to a hematologist and we all know where THAT led! lol

Take care and I hope you get something done soon

Good grief Ben-

Talk about the absolute runaround. Shame on them all for putting you through this again and again and again.

I would put this squarely on the shoulders of your cardiologist and insist on some kind of action. Who knows what strep lurking about can do to you with a heart history.

What weasely behavior.

Who knows....

Who knows....

Who knows what my next steps need to be.
I am not sure how to handle this with any of my docs.

I will, surely, lay this onto my cardio to see what his thoughts are.

Thanks all,

Ben:confused:

Hey Ben....
Are your doctors affiliated with CCF? If not, a consult with them may be a good idea.

Hope you find resolution soon.
Take care

Ben,

Unbelievable! Why is it, when you go to a specialist looking for answers, you can't get anywhere?

I would tell your cardio that it's up to him to figure this out. Who knows what long term effect will be from the strep still being there.

Hope you find a solution soon. Take care!

You are sure having a rough time. I would suggest some more research. Yes, that means going to more doctors'. There just has to one person who can help you get rid of the strep. It is not good for anyone, especially you, honey. You do what you feel you must do to get rid of the menace. You hang in there and I will pray that a cure till be coming to you soon. You be good now.

No no no, that just won't do...

No no no, that just won't do...

Hi Ben,

I saw your post the other day but didn't have time to respond. I have a great doctor (an immunologist) and since I had him close I asked what he thought about recurring stretococciae. According to him recurring strep is recurring strep even if you are asymtomatic at the time. He'd want to know which strain, if your family is infected also etc.
Since you have had valve surgery you definately need a more proactive approach. Why did he not feel he could make a recommendation for treatment?
Keep at it and good luck!

hi ben!
what a scary thing! the word "strep" has always been a dirty word around our house, with kids coming and going all the time. i always thought that it was just one of those things heart valve (and other heart-)patients should avoid.
i would tend to agree with all the others and look for someone who CAN help with this. gina made a good point in suggesting you might call the ccf and see what they have to say.
hope you manage to resolve this sooner than later. good luck and God bless.
