Hiya,
I don't know if this is of any use to anyone, but whist reading through some message threads on here I noticed some people were asking about different types of valves.
My daughter has an 'On-X' valve which has only just been approved in the USA (July 2002) but has been used in Europe since 1998 and here in England since 2001.
My daugher was the first UK child to recieve it and is doing sooooo well with it (touch wood!).
It is, supposedly, the best prosthetic valve thats been created to date. It's made from pyrolytic carbon (same stuff as nuclear fuel rods!) and has a lot of benefits to it.
There's information on this valve type - which makes both mitral and aortic position valves - on the creaters website -

Hope this will be of some interest to someone.

Hi Emma and thanks

My surgeon wanted to use the On-X in the aortic position during my surgery, but they don't have a model, as of yet, that has a graft sleeve attached to it, so he had to use St. Jude. Dr. Novoa would be in full agreement that On-X is the superior valve out right now.

Glad to her your daughter is doing well. I pray that she continues to do so.

I had a post in the New Advancements forum on the On-X Valves, but no one seemed to pick up on it. :)
