Even before OHS , I was an obsessed reader: fiction & nonfiction.
Of the mystery -Doyle, Chandler,Rex Stout, and Preston and Child's new
mysterious character Special Agent Aloysious Pendergast( Love it!).
Some fantasy , like Piers Anthony's;The Books of Immortality ' featuring
all 7 incarnations of good ,evil and those in the middle;)
And Of course Historical-Adventure -Romance(not corny-I promise), is
the series written by Diana Gabaldon, the 1st of which is 'Outlander.
Followed by 'Dragonfly in Amber' ,'Voyager' ,'Drums in Autumn', ' The Fiery
Cross' and the last, 'A Breath of Snow and Ashes'. These span the times of the wipe out on Culloden Moor- the American Revolution( And Eng/Gaelic history is my favorite )These also involve time travel,
but It is handled in such a way by its author as to be plausible, unlike many,
many others.
I hope some of you will or have enjoyed these books and their very real characters that have gotten me thru some bumpy patches.;)
Please feel free to share some of your favorites...the ones that became a companion when it was needed.
I just re-read St.Exupery's 'The Little Prince' and it was so worth it!-Dina

I have read 2 books by Wally Lamb which I really enjoyed:

"I Know This Much Is True"

"She's Come Undone"

I found that immediately after my op (while still in hospital) it was hard to focus on reading for extended periods of time - probably due to tiredness and the effects of all the medications.
But when I got home, reading was a lifesaver to occupy all the down time!

PS: I enjoy books by Sebastian Faulkes and also Clare Francis.

You are right , while in the hospital ,all I could do was stare into space or
the TV screen (SAME THING) But later reading was a God-send.
I dont recognise the authors that you mentioned ; I only know old classics,
and some eclectic old and new. But I will check into the authors - there is
nothing like receiving a gift unknowing-Dina

I read twice a day - afternoons when I rest, nights before sleep. I cannot die yet because I have not read all the books! But I am working hard on it. Am in the middle of a David Baldachi right now - much different from his usual Washington intrigue. I don't do romances - they are silly. Well, except for Stephanie Plum..............

Yes , some romances are really silly, I actually started reading all of those
Gothic Romances (like Victoria Holt) when I was about 9 or 10, at 11 I
was reading those true-hisoricals such as Anya Seton's "Katherine" and
"Green Darkness". It wasnt for a few years later that I became interested
in Horror , Mystery and suspense, and pretty much never came back.
I also should admit to Harry Potter:eek: and the C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia
C.S.Lewis wrote a forward note to his God-Daughter that went something like this:
" Lucy , when I wrote these books for you I didnt realise that little girls
grow much faster than books , and so by the time this is published and
printed you will have outgrown them . But somedayyou will be old enough
to start reading fairytales again. You can then take them off the shelf,
dust it and tell me what you think of it.I shall probablybe too deaf to hear,
andtoo old to understand a word you say, but I shall still be , your
affectionate Godfather,CS Lewis."

It is such a wonderful truth that as we age we can return to our fairytales and imagination.:)

Also-This Avatar is taken from the 7th chronicle of Narnia-"The Last Battle"
