Okay, everyone! Get ready to share that-which-is-hard-to-quantify!

Are you playing a sport?
Do you dance?
Garden?
How about yoga, pilates, stretching or rehab exercises?
Breathing exercises?
Do you lift weights?
Climb stairs (in an exercise type of way)?
Juggle?
Jump on a trampoline, with or without your kids?
Snorkel or scuba dive?
Rollerblade or ice skate?

It doesn't matter if the things you do take a lot of effort or a little effort -- if they are good for you and head you in the right direction, physically and mentally, then you should share them!

For example - just about the easiest thing I do in my life besides sleeping are the stretching exercises prescribed by my chiropractor. But they are just about the most important things I do for my health. So they get reported! And you can all chide me if I don't do them every day!

How do you report? It's easy! Here are some examples:

"Two Haitha yoga classes"
"Danced around my living room for thirty minutes"
"Salsa-dance class"
"Played frisbee with my dog for an hour"
"Here's what I lifted this week"
"Did my knee rehab exercises six out of seven days" (Super Bob!)
"Water aerobics class"
"Twenty minutes on the balance board"

Don't forget to include your more standard forms of exercise, if you're doing them: walking, running, biking, rowing, swimming laps -- all of those things that can be measured in miles. You don't have to report them in miles here, though; you can say, "walked around the block" or "biked for one hour."

Remember that what's easy for some people will be a real challenge for others. So be proud when you report "played catch with my grandson" or "bowled two frames at a family outing" if these are significant for you.

I'll start a new thread each Friday, which will cover the Friday-to-Thursday before. So rack your memories for the things you did this past week, and we'll start tomorrow morning!

Cool thread! Cool title!

This one I can do. I thought I was going to do the mileage throwdown, but it didn't happen . I can handle, and be encouraged to do, some exercise its various forms per your description!

Okay , I'm definitely in! I even like the title- It does reflect our goals,
which are to exercise AND have fun while doing it.
But how do we measure our progress? happiness, mental health, increased
vitality. OR do we need to measure at all?? After all the fun in any journey
is always the journey itself.
Anyone have any thoughts.
Dina:)
I missed your phrase "hard to quantify" so I guess
I am also saying it is "hard to qualify, and how do we" Or do we need to

I think some will measure and some will just report what they have been up to ... some things are hard to really put a measure on ....

Okay leave it open to the individual- like you do on your "Throwdown",
you don't try to force anyone to divulge their total weight, just report
gains and losses. And I know of some who appreciate this option:D

But how do we measure our progress?

No measuring! Unless you want to. And if you do, each person's sport or activity will be different.

Examples:

Golf: Today I didn't monkey around with the cart
Yoga: I learned a new position: "The Monkey"
Softball: Today's drill was "Monkey in the Middle"
Monkeybars: Today....

HEY! What the heck? COOKER!!!!!!!

Anyway, what we're saying is, "I did it!" And some things aren't done with progressing in mind. Like the kinds of stretching and weight lifting that are done to maintain the status quo.

As my husband, who speed skates, says, "At fifty, maintaining my speed is progress!"

PGM- how many days a week do you get to ride?
I haven't been in years. A friend's father bred Arabians in Louisville.
This was during the ages of 16-22y.o.,we had the most fun. I had my
eye on this beautiful stallion named Kentucky Rose, his color was blood-
red and I was in love and just had to ride him. The next day we were
banned from even giving that stallion an apple
So that is the story of my first love - unrequited
Hopefully one of these days I will go to the stables near us.
They allow us to ride on the beach --I think I just came up with what I
want to do on my Birthday!! YAY!!!
