It was on the news here locally and in both the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Such a tragedy for the young woman's family.

Temps Sunday were in the 70s, far warmer than usual for this time of the year. TV newscast said a number of people were hospitalized, more than usual for this particular marathon.

The Austin American Statesmen said today that Erin died from an arrythmia, an irregular heartbeat.

It is terribly sad. Years ago, a young man collapsed and died in the Richmond Marathon. It happens rarely, but it is a risk. In the larger sense, maybe many more lives are saved by people getting into fitness and endurance training than are lost through unknown/undetected heart problems suddenly manifesting themselves. That doesn't help a family suffering the loss, though.
