A few months ago Jerry saw the dentist about pain/bleeding of his gums. He was diagnosed with early or pre-gingivitis; deep root cleaning was done (painful) and he's now on quite a regimen twice a day of brushing w/2 kinds of toothpaste, flossing, using Listerine, etc. He has had a complete mouthful of crowns since 2000.

Friday evening he told me he's worried about a sore on the gum above a post that was implanted in the crowning process. It may have a slight "head". He's a man who endures and watches things before saying a word about it. Of course, it was the weekend and a holiday weekend to boot. He feels fine and is working his head off as usual, but he's concerned enough to say he's going to show up at the dentist's office 1st thing tomorrow. I'm sure he should be on antibiotics.

In reading past posts about endocarditis I can see that this could be a nasty scenario.

If it's a dentist you've used for a long time he would probably see him today. I've had to call on a week-end before and my dentist saw me on a Sunday

Please let us know what action the dentist prescribes. I'm with you; it seems to have the potential to be a bad deal.

Abcess

Abcess

Yep, the dentist says Jerry has an abcess. She prescribed a week's worth of antibiotic and set him up with the root canal specialist who did the original work on that tooth. Funny (not really) how things work: I just cancelled our dental insurance effective Apr 30.

Oh no.....

I'm the most unhappy camper of all needing to have all of mine extracted and get dentures. I haven't found a place yet that's affordable and of course, no dental insurance. :(
