Since this will be my first flu season with a mechanical aortic valve and Coumadin, I am curious whether I should get a flu shot? I generally get one every year but forgot to ask my cardio.

Danshiemom, yes you have to get the flu shot due to the fact, with you have a cronic illness, and recent bypass reciepent, you need the shot. It does not keep you from getting the flu, but you will not get as sick and die. Please ask your PCP doctor about the phnuemonia shout also. You will have to get that one again at age 60. The flu shot is to be done every year. I may get mine this week. You need to do this to keep the heart healthy. I have a double wammy, type 2 diabetes, so I have immune problems that I have to take what precautions I can. You get the shots and have a great day. Hugs for today.
