A few people have come through here who were in a position similar to your mother's.

Surgery isn't always the best option. Sometimes there are other things that can be done, either medications or other types of procedures that do not involve general anesthetics which can be hard on someone in a condition such as your mother's sounds to be.

Cleveland Clinic is by far the best bet if you can make it there.

It's in Cleveland Ohio, the largest city (depending on how you count) in Ohio.

They have a world renowed facility for treating all kinds of heart conditions and defects and they really are the best place to go for the worse cases.

If there is a way to help your mother, they'd find it and do it.

Cleveland Clinic also has a lot of supporting systems for people who travel great distances for treatment. They maintain a private shuttle service to the two major airports in the city and there are a pair of hotels for patients and their relatives on the hospital "campus."

There's a concierge service that will help you coordinate arrival at an airport as well as lodging and appointments and whatever else you might need. it's phenominal.

Best of luck to you both.

Oh, I should add that if your mother can not be treated surgically, they will do whatever else they can including bringing in hospice care. There are still options, even if they're not the options you might have hoped for, they can still provide some measure of help and comfort, for both of you.
