    Cardiac Rehab

I am young and fit and started cardiac rehab 3 weeks after surgery. I am really glad I did. I really did not need the help with getting exercise, I am good at doing that on my own, but I had some heart rate issues post op and the monitoring helped us track down what was going on. I also...

    Vasectomy and heart problems

How do they suppose the sperm are getting into the arteries? ;) The body is quick to form a barrier around any sperm that may leak out after the procedure and should not cause any inflammation. Sounds a bit far fetched to me. My dad, now 70, had a vasectomy 35 years ago and has one of the...

    Murmur After MV Repair?

I have had a murmer and mild to moderat regurg since my mitral valve repair 2 years ago. Several doctors have assured me that it can last for years in this state. I have annual echos and cards visits. I am feeling great, so I try not to think about it and enjoy the life I have. Good luck!

    Dizzy, no explanation

I was dizzy for 10 months solid after my surgery, no one could ever find an explanation. I fell down stairs and had to pull over while driving on a couple of occasions. At almost 2 year out, I have virtually no dizzy spells.

    Surgery set for Nov. 2

Mine were stainless steel, but the ends are just twisted, which can also lead to irritation. No evidence of corrosion after a year of being in my chest. Even though mine was my first OHS, mine was also thought to be a rejection issue. Hopefully relief is on the way for you.

    Surgery set for Nov. 2

Good luck to you, I had all of my wires taken out 11 months ago and it is the best thing that has happened since my OHS 2 years ago. I do not understand why docs just go in and pick one or two to take out. I was having problems and did not want to have to go back if there were wires left in...

    Pericardial Effusion?

I had one as well, I do not know how much, but it went away without any procedure or medications. I was also very dizzy for almost a year post op, no one could explain why.

    MIgraine headaches

I had migraines several times a week after my mitral valve repair, I was not on a beta blocker, so cannot connect it to the medication. I did have some other autonomic nervous system dysfunction post surgery as well. Prior to surgery, I usually had headache every couple of months. At nearly two...

QUESTIONS again for those who have/had palpitations a few months after surgery!

I had tachycardia, palpitations and dizziness for almost 18 months after my surgery. Now, at almost 2 years out, I am feeling great. It is such a relief to not notice every heart beat now, but I know it's beating. An EP told me that sometimes after surgery we are hypersensitive to our hearts...

    Cold and Flu OTC medicines?

Mucinex, guaifenesin, though marketed as an expectorant for coughs, works to thin mucus secretions. Does not have side effects for the heart. Drink lots of water to help this med work. I use it all the time for sinus problems and it works great. Make sure you get one that only has...

Mitral Stenosis post mitral valve repair for mitral regurgitation

I have also had mitral valve repair with an annuloplasty ring and have mild stenosis of the mitral valve now. My MD told me this was of no concern and is common after repair from the scar tissue in the valve since the leaflet(s) are cut and sutured. I had my surgery 12/08 and am just now...

Any known link to low Inr readings and Liver problems?

Lance, I was only addressing the question of the relationship between low INR and a possible liver issue, which does not, in my experience, generally happen. I agree that it is extremely important for valve patients to be properly anticoagulated. In my hospital we regularly admit people with...

Any known link to low Inr readings and Liver problems?

As a nurse we commonly check liver patients INRs and other clotting factors because they tend to have problems with bleeding and have an increased INR. I doubt any liver issue is causing a problem with your decreased INR. Good luck.

    Heart Surgeon Visit

My heart surgeon removed all of my wires about a year after my heart surgery. I was in a lot of pain with them, so even though I was sore for a couple of weeks after, I felt so much better immediately from the resolution of the chonic pain they caused. I had all of mine removed, I did not want...

    Returning to work post-op?

I am an ER nurse and I started back 2 months after my surgery part time and then full time after 3 months. It was not enough time for me, I really suffered. But, I do think starting out with shorter shifts and working up stamina is a good idea.

    Tee

The TEE gives a much clearer picture than a regular echo, since there are no ribs to interfere with the picture. I was shot full of meds for the procedure and do not recall any of it, it was a minor procedure. I also had a very detailed cardiac CT scan and did not have to have a cardiac cath...

    Please Help!!!!!!!

I only had a CT scan prior to my surgery, no cardiac cath. It was a specialized cardiac scanner, apparently good enough for my surgeon.

First Echo and TEE since Mitral Valve Repair surgery last year.

I'm in the same boat. I had mitral valve repair 12/08 and have had mild to moderate regurgitation since. I have been told I can live for years without problems this way. Even though there is still the leakage, my heart has remolded (no more hypertrophy) and my EF has gone from 45 to 55. Just...

Weird Sensations... not sure if it's heart related or not!

I had constant dizziness, head buzzing sensation, weak limbs, palpitations, racing heart- I ended up being diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) a few months after my surgery. I am feeling better a year and a half after my mitral valve surgery, but still have some...

    surgery soon

I am a nurse too, and yes sometimes too much information is a bad thing. As soon as I found out I needed the surgery I made a date to get it done quickly. I decided I would rather be recovering than dealing with presurgery anxiety. The vent and tube removal are uncomfortable for a short time...
