    Smoking

I do recommend the new drug Chantix. It seems to be working this time around. My cravings are less and less and no real stress associated with it. It's a nicotine free drug as well. Although you do need a prescription. I'm almost 2 weeks although I did slip up on New Years Eve :( But I never had...

    Smoking

For me, it's not the paraphanalia laying around like ashtrays and lighters that's tempting. Luckily, it's just the cigarette itself. Now, that I don't have cigarettes in the house, it's easier to stop and think about what I'm doing before I jump in the car and drive to the store to get a pack. I...

    Smoking

Nice job! Chewing the gum is fine, it's being smoke free is what really counts! I'm using the gum as well. My Dr. told he had much rather I chew that gum for the rest of my life than light up another cigarette if that's what it takes. Nictone is bad but it's the smoke that carries the...

    Smoking

Trust me, I know how nagging goes and it doesn't work only support helps. Condemning somebody for smoking is not the way to go. My ex-girlfriend (before surgery) nagged me so bad it created constant arguments and is one of the reasons we broke up. I think at this point everybody in the world...

    Smoking

Yeah, I'm always embarassed to admit I smoke. Whenver I light up and people have never seen me smoke but know I've had heart surgery always say "You had heart surgery and you smoke". I mean how to do you answer that knowing that it's stupid! Yeah, we can start the Smoking throw down at the...

    Smoking

It was supposed to be my New Years Resolution but I decided to start early :) I'm all for a "throw down" how do you get started? What is it, first of all?

    Smoking

Wow, there are a lot more smokers out there than I thought! It's funny how smokers think alike when it comes to life without cigarettes. It is like a bad marriage or relationship esp. when you've been doing something for 20 years and can't let go. I've really grown to be disgusted with myself...

    Smoking

Thanks Everybody! Thanks Everybody! Thanks for all the input. I knew deep down there is no magic bullet but just wanted to see what other have experimented with that worked. The Dr. swears that the Chantix will help with the nictine addiction but the psycological part I have to do myself. He...

    Smoking

Yes, that dreaded subject. Okay, not looking to be judged just need some support and advice. I've fallen off the wagon again. Since surgery in March 2006 I quit smoking for 6 months only slowly to start again. I have significantly cut back but not quit. Sometimes 2 to 10 cigarettes a day.The...

    Question for active Coumadin users

I whitewater kayak alot. And I encounter quite a few rocks. Those rocks aren't always friendly. All I can say is protect yourself with all equipment available. For me, when I (we) go creekin', which is very shallow fast moving water down a very small creek bed, the risk for contact with rocks...

    Question for active Coumadin users

It amazes me how people sit around and toss around statistics and calculate mathmatical eqautions that sometimes equal less than 1% percent. It amazes me how some smokers out live non smoker when they have 3 times the greater risk of heart disease. It amazes me how my grandmother lived to the...

    Question for active Coumadin users

I asked my Card about internal bleeding as well (not brain hemmorage) and he simply said "It will stop". I have, what I think, to be a hemmroid. Well, I saw blood in my stool for about 5 days. I started to worry about it and almost went to the doctor. But I was feeling no ill effects from it...

Contact sport 11 weeks after BAVR!!

I personally have not slowed down as far as being active on Coumadin. I do quite a bit of whitewater kayaking and rocks are my enemy. It worries my Card to some degree but he seems to think as long as I wear the best helmet on the market I should be fine. I do have to say if I gave up kayaking...

    Love my INRatio!

Great machine. It's painless and over in 2 minutes. How easy is that to manage your INR :)

Keeping stable INR - advice please

True, it is impossible to keep it between 3.0-3.5 on a consistent basis. That is my target range that was set by my surgeon. I think all that means is that the surgeon wants to keep my range on the high end esp. with my condition (Tricuspid). Realistically, 2.5 -4.0 is what me and my Dr...

    Cardiac catheterization was a breeze

Boy, do they give you a sedative! I was high as a kite (at my request)!!!! I enjoyed every bit of it. One Card recommended surgery in 3 months after the Cath and another recommeded 6 months. So, I did it in 2 1/2 months after my Cath. That is after the Surgeon reviewed my case and said "Yes...

    Moving right along. . .

Sounds like your Card is keeping a good eye on you too. I think all the restrictions they put on you seems worse than the OHS itself. It killed me to be inactive before and after the fact. Now I'm back to normal and happier than ever.

    clicking during sex

I always thought the clicking noise during sex was the clock next to the bed. :D :D :D Seroiusly, the clicking noise depends on the person really. I can only hear mine when it's completely quiet when I lay down to go to bed. Other than that, it's not that noisey.

    Best Machine?

I have nothing to compare it too since it's my first one but I love the INRatio. It's quick and easy.
