    Endocarditis

Hello everyone. I am pleased to report that I am alive and well and no lasting ill effects from endocarditis except for the fear of getting it again. Endocarditis sucks! I would rather have another valve replacement than go through endocardiis again. Toni I hope your husband responds to...

    Oink to tick

I am sorry to hear that you you will need new valve so soon; I know you were expecting to get a lot more miles on it. As for the mechanical valve and Coumadin; it hasn't been a major impact to my lifestyle. I still run, ride, practice martial arts, ski and generally play hard. I have had some...

    Yet another newbie!

My journey home was only 1.4 miles so all of your travel plans plans sound challenging to me. As a private pilot I like the general aviation option but be aware it is going to HURT A LOT getting in and out of the Aztec. If you choose this option you should have a friend assist you. Philip

    New Orleans Hotel

Below are examples of room rates for hotels that may be good choices for a tourist in New Orleans. All are located in or in short walking distance to the French Quarter. The French Quarter has more to offer than Bourbon Street; there are many great restaurants, shops and galleries and is in...

    New Orleans Hotel

I guess I need to visit VR.Com more frequently. Marguerite gave me a heads up on the New Orleans trip. I will be happy to do a little research on Hotels and share my views of where I would want to stay as a tourist in New Orleans. I will post before the end of the week. While I'm here...

Do you agree with the new prophylatic guidelines?

I have not read the new guidlines but I have had endocarditis; it was a much more challenging than valve replacement and the chance of death was much higher. I will accept the risk of antibotics even if there is only minimal proof that they work. Endocarditis is nasty stuff! Philip

    Carbomedics valve, anyone?

Carbomedics here too. I had way too much time to think about it before surgery (that was harder than surgery for me). I had already made the decision to go mechanical but took my surgeons recommendation on valve choice and have no regrets. Still clicking after 2.5 years + Philip

    Gustav

We made it through Gustav high and dry. The only damage was a limb the blew off a tree. Neighbors That witnessed it said it was diverted from the house a pair of Canadian geese! Thanks to all for your thoughts, prayers and geese. Let's hope that Praline, Marie and others in the storms path...

    Gustav

8:20 CST: It looks like this is not going to be as bad as expected. In my neighborhood winds are gusting to approximately 60 MPH with less rain than expected. The only damage I have seen in this area is minimal tree damage. At this time we still have electricity. Praline: I'm guessing...

    Gustav

Hello from Gustav. We are ridding this one out. We are fortunate to live in one of the higher areas of the metropolitan area, we have lots of food, water, generator, fuel, gas for the grill and even adequate ammo just in case. In my area there are a lot of people staying and at least for the...

    Endocarditis relapse?

Hi Bugs I had endocarditis at 6 months post-op and I have my share of allergy related symptoms. For me the noticeable difference was the fever associated with the endocarditis. I avoid the doctors whenever possible but if I ever get a fever again I will get it checked immediately and all with...

    Dental Meds

Meds are inexpensive. Endocarditis sucks! I'll keep taking my meds; once was enough. Philip

    Frustration

Hang tough, it gets better, perhaps not as rapidly as most would like but it does get better. At 16 months I'm still struggling to join the middle of the pack runners and only recently started making some progress. Our running/recovery Yoda is msiwik. He has found a very effective physical...

    MRI + Mechanical Valves?

My Carbomedics is good to 1.5 Tesla. I'm still trying to get the refrigerator magnets to stick to my chest. Philip
