MRI & St. Jude Mechanical Valves

I'm scheduled for an MRI on Feb. 8 due to lower back pain. I was feeling very apprehensive about it before reading the above posts. Thanks for the information!

    Comparison Echos

I can't figure out what's going on. My cardiologist doesn't seem at all concerned about my symptoms, so I've convinced myself that I shouldn't worry, yet he still has me coming in for check-ups every 3 months. I am extremely short of breath when doing the simplest activities...showering and...

    Brown blood?

Just completed my weekly pt/inr testing. My acceptable range is 2.5-3.5 and today's reading was 2.5. After I applied gauze to stop the bleeding I noticed that my blood was brown rather than the usual red. Anyone know what this means or if it is a cause for concern? Thanks

    A Little Concerned

Paul, Hopefully, having a TEE isn't necessarily an indication of needing a third surgery! I had a TEE after being hospitalized for an infection to make sure the infection didn't attack my heart. It hadn't, so the outcome was most definately good. Hoping that the results of your TEE is...

    Ecko results

I understand your concern. I had MV Replacement 5 years ago, and my Tricuspid has worsened from mild regurg to moderate in 3 months. I "Googled" tricuspid problems following mitral valve replacement and had several articles pop up. The articles/studies described the likelihood of developing...

    Tricuspid Problems

I'm having some difficulty understanding tricuspid regurgitation after my mitral valve replacement 5 years ago. My cardio assures me that everything is fine even though I am symptomatic and a comparison of the two valves indicates the regurgitation is worsening. After doing a little research on...

    Worried in Alabama

Thank you everyone for your quick responses. Ross, Marylee, Hensylee, Bob, and Bill, I called my cardio's office today and asked them to make copies of the report from my last stress-echo and they said that my doctor would be glad to go over them with me when I came to pick them up. Bill, I...

    Well, It is done.

Kathy, I can feel your pain. Having to put both my parents in nursing homes was probably the worst, heart-breaking decision I ever made. At the time, I was working and had two small children at home, so the guilt was tremendous. I see that you are from Magnolia Springs. We have a house in...

    Anyone ever get "clicky" nights?

Absolutely! Absolutely! It's 4 a.m. and I haven't slept a wink, so I know exactly what you're talking about. There are some nights that even though I take trazedone to help me sleep and have a fan turned on high to drown out the clicking, I stilll have trouble sleeping. Add the clicking...

    Worried in Alabama

Hi VR Friends, I haven't been here in a while due to changes going on in our family and just simply haven't had the time. For the last year and half, I've had frequent chest pains ranging in severity from mild tightness to crushing pains so bad that I'd need to lie down just to get some relief...

    If you've had mitral repair

Bear72, Only two weeks since OHS and you have the mental capacity to type on your computer? You seem to be doing great! I've had a repair, then a replacement. It's been almost 4 years since my MVR and I still am aware of the slightest change or difference. I think after going through such a...

Anyone have problems with potassium levels?

Sorry to hear that your potassium levels are out of "whack." I also have trouble finding that balance. I take 40mg furosemide along with 20MEG potassium daily for swelling in my ankles and feet. Last March, I was hospitalized for a dehydration because of a stomach virus. I never understood...

    Aortic leakage after MVR?

Hi all! Haven't visited site in a while, everything has been going so well. But, a cardio visit yesterday has raised concerns and questions. I've been having periods of dizzyness and chest pains. It's not every day, but at least twice to 3 times a week, I have episodes of these symptoms. I've...

    Heart Spasms?

thank you! thank you! Duff Man, Jacqui, Bob, and Bill, Thank you for your responses and for helping ease my concerns. Yes, I was lying on my left side so I'm sure that was all it was. I have felt the "flip-flop" many other times, this time it lasted longer and woke me from sleep. Either...

    Heart Spasms?

I've been very busy during the last year or so and haven't been "in tune" to my body much. I have occasionally had bouts of angina - for some reason mostly while doing laundry, hanging clothes in our closets and taking baskets of folded clothes upstairs. I've mentioned it to my doctor, but he...

    New to Home Testing

I'm so excited, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning! I received my new Protime home monitoring kit. Hallelujuah, there will be no more 3-4 hour waits in outpatient to have my PT/INR done. There will be no more "lost faxes" and miscommunication (hopefully). A nurse from Raytel spent over an...

    scar revision?

Diana, I too, had a bad scar from my first OHS. My children called it a "worm." Then, when I had my failed (repaired) valve replaced 3 years later, the doctors somehow smoothed the scar, and now it is wide, but isn't raised. I also tried vitamin E, creams, etc.. and nothing worked. I pray that...

    HRT & Coumadin

I recently began experiencing night sweats and other unpleasant menopausal symptoms. My GYN put on premarin tabs. He knew my history of MV problems, and assured me that HRT is a safe treatment for my symptoms. However, after researching on the internet, I'm not so sure. Can anyone help me with...

    Angeogram question for ladies

I suggest that you reconsider and wait and just let a woman nurse attend to this. You might shave too much or not enough. I hope that you receive good news! Good luck!
