    Pillbox

Pellicle, you use a plastic pillbox as well?

    Pillbox

I'm wondering the same thing about degradation of potency/efficiency. My assumption is that light does more damage to the pills then does the container (if not light sealed). I've been using a wood pillbox and have not noticed any changes in my INR values since doing so. I also take Vit K...

One Year Post Op – Thank you!

Hi All, I'm happy and very grateful to say that I've been doing very well for a year now. My anniversary was Oct 28. I'm so glad that you have all been here to answer some of my questions during pre-op and helped me throughout my recovery. There is so much to talk about but I'll just keep it...

PVCs during workout (6 month post op)

I've noticed that I still get PVCs when I workout. Is this normal? I'm not doing anything too crazy. I'm 6mth post op and we'll be seeing my cardio in a month. Aside from that and being slightly hypochondriac, everything is great! Life feels so good! :D

    9 months post-AVR ... chest still sore

I think I'm having the same issues with sternum soreness. I've been exercising freely. I'm guessing my pain might be caused by doing push-ups and planks. I'm about 5months post op. Otherwise feeling great!

2.5 Months Post Op Incision - Ingrown Hairs?

So I've noticed a few ingrown hairs around my incision (red blood blisters/pimples). One of them is bleeding now. Should I be worried? Or is this like any other sort of thing but near my incision? The last thing I want is an infection at the incision. Aside from that, the incision was well...

Blood Pressure — Post Op Changes.

My BP was always normal before the surgery (~120/80). Then all of a sudden it spiked. After the surgery I was put on Bisoprolol to keep that in check and it worked. My BP was actually lower than normal at times 110/60. Slowly I was taken off of Bisoprolol and now 9 weeks post I am getting pretty...

    7 Weeks Post-Op

Thanks for the replies! They're definitely making me feel more at ease. I guess I thought I'd be blasting through recovery, but unfortunately it's something that takes time. I will try to keep up with my walks in order to keep pushing myself further but obviously not overdoing it.

    7 Weeks Post-Op

So I'm now 7 weeks post-op. My feelings are mixed and I'm not sure how I should be physically at this point. I am 30 years old and had my BAV replaced with a mechanical valve and my ascending aorta + root replaced (Bentall) at the end of October. I haven't been able to exercise much since it's...

    Enlarged Aorta New Diagnosis.

Richie, yes those are all mechanical valves. At 40, you'll probably want to go with mechanical. But there are definitely other options, I just wanted to minimize my chances of re-operation.

    Enlarged Aorta New Diagnosis.

I chose the On-X originally, but then as time passed and my surgery creeped up, I read many articles and studies that didn't necessarily show that the benefits they claim have been proven or were advantageous. Right before my operation, I talked to my surgeon and told him to decide for me...

    Enlarged Aorta New Diagnosis.

I was in the same position as you at 20. Ascending Aorta enlarging, BAV stenoic and regurgiation more and more. I was asymptomatic all the way to the point when I decided to have surgery at the age of 30. I'm now post op 4 weeks and I'm recovering well. I'm feeling good about having it done. As...

    Confusing appointment today

I ended up seeing a surgeon 4-5 years ago to discuss my options. Then I saw two other surgeons 6 months ago to plan for my recent surgery. Don't be afraid to see a surgeon and discuss with him/her, they will be honest with you and tell you what to expect and help you with any questions you might...

    Amiodarone Post Surgery

Did you get put on this medication post surgery? What was the dose and how long? I hear it's a pretty bad drug to be on, really don't want to be on it longer than I have to. I got a-fib in ICU, and I'm not sure if it was caused by someone trying to get me to do physio in the worse possible way...

    Drainage Tube Incisions

Good to hear! One of the scabs accidentally came off with the bandage but hopefully it'll form a new one and heal normally. At least I can't see my insides anymore. ;)

    Drainage Tube Incisions

My drainage tube incisions were left open and they weren't stitched. I've asked everyone I could in the hospital and was re-assured that they would close up and heal normally. Has anyone else been discharged with the drainage tube incisions left open? I change the bandages everyday and they're...

St-Jude & On-x Heart Valves — Articles, Studies, or Data

Hi everyone, If you could please dump all articles, studies and data links in this thread, that would be great. I'm trying to compare the two without being influenced by the marketing strategy and efforts of each company. Going in for surgery in 5 days and would like to choose between the two...

    On-X Valve Noise

Your heart naturally starts to get larger and pumps blood harder because it is pumping through a faulty valve before the surgery. I wonder if once you get your new valve, it gradually returns to a more stable normal sized heart, pumping blood a little less aggressively than before. So it could...
