My 3/11/14 day scar photos, ten weeks in and then what I did for Halloween... :)

Aaaah, shouldn't have linked them directly to Facebook, pics are all broken :(

Best INR tracker app for Android?

I might just get WARFARIN!!!! tattooed onto my arm :) If you ever decide to go ahead with the app as valvers get more tech savvy, give me a shout - I'm a game artist with a fair bit of design/UI/UX experience. I'll report back if I find anything that matches up to OATBook, and maybe email the...

Best INR tracker app for Android?

I guess that's one option, but the main reason I use OATBook is because I need nagging reminders and can't be bothered setting up some spreadsheet/calendar combo.

Best INR tracker app for Android?

Hi! I've just jumped ship from iPhone to Android and I'm looking for a replacement for OATBook (http://www.oatbook.co.uk/), which has served me well for the last couple of years. Any recommendations? They all score around 3-4 stars. Ideally I want something that will let me import data I've...

Heart Rate Monitors - what works well/what doesn't?

Thanks SumoRunner and AZ Don, doesn't sound like consumer heart rate monitors would be suitable for what I'm after, looks like I'd be after something between a HRM a Holter monitor which might not even exist (I didn't actually know the official name until just now as my hospital refers to them...

Heart Rate Monitors - what works well/what doesn't?

Great post, exactly what I dropped by to ask :) I've never used any of these devices and just starting to do some research, but I'm looking for something I can use to record any palpitations or irregularity in my heartbeat in addition to normal exercise/sports use (I'm active), would these be...

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

Amen to that, I'm not going near a piste again without a good covering of some sort of hi-tech molecular bonding armour :) As for the description of your injury, it does sound similar to how I've noticed they develop over the first few days and into the weeks. I've wondered if even the effect of...

Thanks, I consider myself somewhat of a pioneer. :)

Aah, there's no reason to be scared, we're all friends here! There's no denying Warfarin and OHS will change your life, but personally it's been for the better - however odd that might sound to a fresh cyborg/cyborg-to-be. In my 18 months experience, I've discovered it's not a good thing to...

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

Actually I think Warfarin makes the alcohol act faster (maybe by a factor of your INR) but gets you equally drunk, so things like shots quickly get you past the point of no return without even seeing it, and therein lieth the danger. As I understand it, the interaction of both substances with...

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

I couldn't agree more, because of the risks involved with MVR patients my doctors/nurses always aim for the lowest common denominator lest someone mistake their 3mg Warfarin tabs for a tube of blue Smarties and end up bleeding profusely from their eye sockets, this also fits my a room full of...

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

The first thing you should always do in a MTB crash is get as far from the bike as you can! From my experience of Warfarin, I'd think everyone would get worse bruising my a factor of their INR. I'd certainly never done anything before, through similar activities, to the level of the hip injury...

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

I've always been spectacularly good at injuring myself :)

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

Yeah I'm pretty certain now I have a subperiosteal hematoma complicated by Warfarin, which equates to "Stay active, bruise yourself or whatever but don't do it so bad you bruise the f***in' bone!" - or to put it another way, wrap myself in d3o and go for it. I've spoken to the clinic about...

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

*blush* :) It is possible to get a haematoma of the bone (I guess a subperiosteal hematoma), so any anti-coagulation affecting your blood/bruising should have an equal effect on that. Maybe this is exactly the point I'm talking about when things get considerably more painful, when the bone...

Active lifestyles, Warfarin and injuries, eek! (slightly graphic pics!!)

I've always been very active so was never going to let a little thing like a mechanical heart valve affect that, after getting the all-clear from my surgeon and cardio (after turning up to a check-up 8 weeks post-op on a mountain bike) I'm pretty much the same as I was before, except for the...

    warfarin and feeling the cold

I actually feel the cold quite a bit less than I used to, but I suspect that's 'cos my mitral valve had a congenital defect I never knew about and now I have a mechanical one that's working at 100%.

    Scary Diagnosis

Woop, thats great news!!! Not wanting to give you something new to worry about (by any means!) but has anyone spoken to you about the increased risk of heart infections with a dodgy mitral valve? I got through 35 years with not a clue anything was up with mine (apparently genetic) until...

    Scary Diagnosis

Yup, it helps a lot. I didn't find this forum until the day before my op was initially planned (it came up in a Google result when I was pondering the tissue/mechanical dilemma) but it's been invaluable for post-op advice and getting answers to all the little questions I can't be hassling my...
