How long did you take off work (desk job) after OHS?

I am back to work couple of weeks after surgery. I was 36 at surgery and have a desk job too. I felt bored couple of weeks after, so returned to work from home couple of weeks after surgery.

    2 years

Completed two years. Cardio is haapy that heart function (including EF) is back to normal. He took me off of Metoprolol which gave me all sorts of side effects first one year. No issues with coumadin management barring occasional highs and lows of inr levels. -Kumar

    One year

Completed one year this week. Things are going well. Thank you god. Life is back to normal within weeks after surgery. There is drop in ef at 6 months check, but cardio is very happy with the improvement in ef in one year check. Cardio thinks metoprolol helped, hence reluctant to take me off...

    ejection factor

Lets put things in perspective. I was told that healthy heart will have an ef of 60-65%. I was concernrd after 3 month post-op check when the ef went below 40%. It was estimated as 45% pre-op when valve was severely leaking. But, latest echo done two weeks ago ( 9 months post-op) showed the ef...

    6 month update

Posting this thread to share my experiences. I am 6 months post-op now. Fortunately, recovery has been very smooth (touch wood). Life is back to normal within one month after surgery. Back to work by third week after post-op. Cardio is happy with heart size remodeling at 2 month check, but not...

    Fatigue..beta blocker issue?

I am 5 months post-op and am on 100mg per day beta blocker. I do not like it. My resting rate stays at low 60s. My bp and heart rate doesn't go up even with exercise. After walking 30 mins on treadmill at speed 4.0, I still see my heart rate staying at 130. Another side effect i see with beta...

    How do you Know

I had my surgery in Brigham and Women's 8 weeks back. Not only I found surgeon team top notch, but also the care from nusrsing team is outstanding. I can tell they had experience dealing with many cases before, know what we go through post-op and help us tremendously in the recovery. You cannot...

    Getting Closer

Welcome to the site. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery. I am sure you do well. I delayed surgery myself this year to give space for a newborn and time for my wife to recover. Now, 7 weeks after post-op my biggest gripe is that I cannot hold my irresistable 5 month old into my arms :)...

    Metaprolol and orthostatis

I take 100 mg metoprolol. Occasionally, I feel dizzy (few seconds) when I stood up or get up from bed. I don't know if it is caused by metoprolol, but my doc did mention that I may feel bit tired because of metoprolol. My cardio talked about moving me off metoprolol to some other drug around 3...
